Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Cathy Wheeler

Activity Co-ordinator

I have been with the team at Southerndown since 2023

People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. Its the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.

In my spare time I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Baking Club

Southerndown held their weekly baking club, and it was a great success. With so many bakers amongst us sharing a love for baking and exchanging hint and tips. The baking club always brings back so many wonderful memories.

Christmas Lunch At Sturdy’s Castle

We were so excited for our outing to Sturdy’s Castle for Christmas Lunch and all the trimmings, the food was fantastic, the staff were amazing and we had the best time. What a great way to get into the festive spirit, Christmas crackers and party hats not to mention the Christmas jokes. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Our Christmas visit to Blenheim Palace

We Visited Blenheim Palace ‘The Kingdom of the Snow Queen’ for a Christmas outing. The Kingdom of the Snow Queen really is a truly magical experience. The palace rooms were transformed into magical, shimmering frost coved Kingdom of ice. We thought it was truly amazing day, and we all had such a fantastic time.

Evesham Country Park

We spent a day at Evesham County park for one of our Christmas outings. We thoroughly enjoyed the park with its amazing Christmas displays, and we loved the colour coordinated Christmas trees. We also enjoyed a tasty Christmas Lunch and we even had time to visit the Christmas Penguins. Everyone had such a festive fun filled day.
