Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Southerndown has started the festive season with a pantomime from Tickled Pink Productions. We had such a great afternoon singing and dancing along with all our favourite festive Classics. What a great way to start the festive cheer.

Minibus Outing to the Rollright Stones

With the Rollright Stones just a short trip a way we thought it would be the perfect place to visit for an afternoon. We enjoyed the Stones it’s such an interesting place to visit, with its history and stunning views.

A Visit from Tickled Pink

We had a fabulous visit from Tickled Pink who performed an all singing, all dancing montage of their best shows of the last 20 years. We loved every minute of it , we all sang and danced along with songs from Beauty and the Beast and New York New York to name but a few.

Classical Music Performance

We had the pleasure of a special performance from The King and Rackham Duo here at Southerndown. They played some  of our very favourite pieces of music such as Nessun Dorma. It was such a relaxing afternoon, and they play the music so beautifully  a great time was had by all.

The wildlife videographer Simon Watts

We have enjoyed another fantastic visit from The wildlife videographer Simon Watts. Who showed us a very interesting film he had made about wildlife and the forest in February and March. We loved the film and we found learning about different bird calls very interesting. We enjoy our monthly visits from Simon and we are already looking forward to his next visit.

A Darts afternoon

Our wonderful carers, Sasha, Martin and Lois held a darts tournament for our residents and what a fun game it was. There was a few nail biting games in the tournament but it was such a fun afternoon. Our residents had a great time and enjoyed themselves.
