Activities at Mount Tryon Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Mount Tryon Care Home

Meet Gloria!

This is Gloria. Gloria is new resident to Mount Tryon and enjoys spending time on her favourite hobby – Jigsaws!

Our Home Services Advisor, Adele tried her hand at this rather tricky hobby but mainly, it must be said, had a good old natter with Gloria.

Life has been unkind to Gloria in recent months. Just nine weeks ago she was asleep in her old home and woke in the middle of the night coughing.

Through no fault of her own, her house had caught fire and smoke started to choke Gloria.

At 91 years young, she remembered her beloved late husband George’s wise words and dived to the floor, crawling to the front door. Once there, she raised the alarm. Seven Fire Engines and Two water tankers tackled the blaze well into the night.

Her home was destroyed.

After a couple of stays in hospital battling the effects of smoke inhalation, Gloria picked Mount Tryon as her preferred place to rest and recover.

Parlour Music arrives at Mount Tryon

What a truly wonderful afternoon we all had at Mount Tryon listening to beautiful Parlour music.
Parlour music is a type of popular music which, as the name suggests, is intended to be performed in the parlours of houses, usually by amateur singers and pianists.
It's heyday came in the 19th century, as a result of a steady increase in the number of households with enough resources to purchase musical instruments and instruction in music, and with the leisure time and cultural motivation to engage in recreational music-making.
Thank you to everyone that played so wonderfully for us.

We are so proud!

We couldn't be prouder!

Here at Mount Tryon Care Home in Torquay, we are over the moon because our much-loved Managing Director, Natasha Lazovic, has reached the final of the Social Care Leadership Awards 2022. She has been shortlisted in the prestigious Executive Care Home Leader category.

Organised by Care Talk magazine, the Social Care Leadership Awards are designed to showcase excellence in senior leadership in the social care sector. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on Wednesday 19th October 2022.

Originally from Serbia, Natasha trained as a nurse and came to the UK in 1994, achieving her UK registration in 1996. She has always had a passion for caring and worked her way up through the ranks with experience in several care settings, including working in both the NHS and the private sector in various parts of the UK and London. In 2000 she decided to go into the care sector and became first Deputy Manager, then General Manager before being promoted to Regional Director. She joined Barchester in 2014 in charge of 10 homes and hasn’t looked back, progressing to Senior Regional Director and then Divisional Director. She is now Managing Director of Barchester’s South Division looking after 80 homes, a role she relishes.

Natasha says: “I was so shocked when I heard I had been short-listed, I had no idea I had even been nominated! I feel very proud to be a finalist, it makes me feel rather emotional actually, it is lovely to be recognised for doing the job I love. I guess it means I must be doing something right! I’m touched that people took the time to nominate me and very thankful indeed.”

Barchester Healthcare’s CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, comments: “This nomination is very well deserved. I have had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside Natasha for over 17 years. She is exceptionally hard-working and dedicated to her teams and residents. She is an incredible leader and already very much a winner in my eyes.”

Afternoon Tea and a trip down memory lane.

Here you can see our lovely residents at Mount Tryon enjoying a delicious Afternoon Tea on the 25th anniversary of the late Princess Diana.

We all enjoyed watching a film about her life and we discussed various royals past and present whilst reminiscing fondly about the Princess.

Our wonderful kitchen at Mount Tryon did not disappoint as always. We asked for homemade delicious Sweet Treats and they certainly delivered. With Chocolate Eclairs, Lemon Cake and Cup Cakes to feast on, we had everything we could wish for to satisfy a sweet tooth!

Of course and Anniversary wouldn’t be the same without a toast. So with our chilled bottles of Prosecco at the ready, we toasting the late Princess.

The perfect way to take a trip down memory lane.

Getting creative with Lavender Bag making

This week we turned our attention and our creativity to making Lavender bags at Mount Tryon.

Leonie, our Activities Coordinator prepared the lounge with a diffuser along with the finest lavender oil.

Along with some relaxing music, we got to work.

Our residents started to fill bags with fresh lavender from our beautiful garden.

We produced lots of gorgeous Lavender bags and these are our first stocking fillers for their friends and family!

After their hard work, we settled down for a well to a lavender hand massage and a nice cup of tea and cake.

The aroma in our residents lounge was extremely therapeutic and our residents were relaxed and content.
