Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Swansea oh Swansea…

We were invited to attend the new inclusion room at Swansea City stadium to watch the football. We even made an appearance on the T.V which can be seen on our Facebook page! The gents had a fabulous day out even though the Swans lost on this occasion! We can’t wait to attend again!

Red Nose Day

We raised a fantastic £682 for Comic relief by hosting a full week of challenges in our “I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here" theme.

One challenge was to row remotely from Oxford to Cambridge a staggering 104,000 metres! Residents also helped by taking part in a get the star out of the foods in a hidden box! Management and staff took part in a (not very nice) trick or treat, bush tucker eating challenge, while others decided the Ice-bucket challenge or an ice bath!!

Intergenerational School & Nursey Visits

We have been joined for the last six months by children from Ysgol Y Strade for our intergenerational project. The benefits this brings both generations is evident to see in the images. We also recently enjoyed a visit from local Serendipity Nursery, where the little ones joined us for a baking morning. The residents look forward to our Thursday get together.

A trip to Swansea’s Egyptian Museum

Residents here at Hafan Y Coed enjoyed a fabulous trip to Swansea’s Egyptian museum at the university. This trip was a huge hit with our residents. They all enjoyed learning about the Egyptian history and even got to mummify!

Chinese new year celebrations

We have enjoyed welcoming Strade School for our intergenerational project. The children have helped our residents make Chinese lanterns and a dragon! We have enjoyed an evening with family and friends to celebrate Chinese New Year with food prepared by our chef, traditional outfits and music! A great evening was enjoyed.
