Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Hafan Y Coed Goes to Strictly Come Dancing Live

WOW! Just WOW!

What an evening some of our resident’s got to enjoy tonight. We took to the M4 and headed to Cardiff for a VIP experience to watch Strictly Come Dancing. We were kindly invited to the show courtesy of the Bands Drummer, Brett Morgan who just happens to be one of our Activities Team’s Uncle. He provided all the tickets and a VIP experience in the exclusive bar which we all enjoyed ahead of the show with our own DJ where residents could choose their favourite songs to be played.

Two of our resident’s actually cried with emotion and said how much it meant to them to be there. Brian, our resident dancer at Hafan Y Coed said ‘ it was hard not to get up and join them, it was a fantastic night and I loved it’

We assumed they would all be fast asleep on the route home, but no, they continued to chat about their day and their enjoyment till we safely arrived home.

International Food Day

To mark the date of the Eurovision song contest which was hosted in the UK this year, we decided to go one step further and go around the world! Many of our staff are from countries around the world and what better way to showcase your country than through food! We enjoyed a Filipino, Welsh, Indian, Spanish, Italian, Ghana and Mexican meze of foods for everyone to sample along with traditional attire worn by each country. One resident said ‘I absolutely loved the event this evening, especially enjoyed my favourite Welsh dish, cockles and Lava bread’

Pancake Day

What’s not to love about pancake day! Residents enjoyed making their own pancakes on each community and had the choice of different colour pancake mix they could choose. We enjoyed a range of toppings to add, such as strawberries, cream and chocolate delights,  but the favourite had to be Lemon and sugar! Well done to our Chefs who also took part in this activity with us! A whole home approach

Cocktail and Jazz Afternoon

Residents had requested a range of musicians to join us in one of our residents meetings. We enjoyed local saxophonist who put on a show for us. We decided to make a full day of it by hosting a Cocktail and Jazz afternoon whereby residents enjoyed creating a variety of different cocktails to enjoy during the performance. A lovely day was had by all

St. David's Day

We enjoyed a full Welsh day’s activity to mark St David’s day. Firstly residents enjoyed a mini bus outing to our local Foothold charity, where residents enjoyed some Welsh themed cooking with local school. We made Cawl, a traditional Welsh Stew. We enjoyed peeling and preparing the ingredients and then had the opportunity to eat our creations. In the afternoon we welcomed local Coedcae  School who performed a Welsh song performance where residents sang along and enjoyed seeing children dressed in their traditional Welsh attire.

Happy Mothers Day

We enjoyed a day full of love today with an afternoon vintage tea with all the bubbles and cakes you could wish for. Mum’s and their children had the chance to have a photo printed in our photo booth!
