Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Healthy Eating Week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Fairview House care home in Aberdeen have been celebrating Health Eating Week by taking part in a range of different activities to promote eating well.  Healthy Eating Week is an annual event run by the British Nutrition Foundation to highlight the importance of healthy, active lifestyles and invite everyone to ‘find your healthier you!’

The staff and residents got into the spirit of the week by setting up a hydration station to go around all of our resident’s rooms and lounge areas to ensure that we were all keeping hydrated. We also came together to make our own fruit salads and learn about the importance of getting your 5-a-day into your diet. Throughout the week we also conducted our balloon volleyball and music and movement classes to ensure everyone was getting some exercise every day.

RAF Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

World Milk Day

To celebrate World Milk Day, residents enjoyed our delicious Milkshake Cart.

We had chocolate, vanilla and strawberry milkshakes alongside a fruit punch for anyone who didn't like milkshakes. Thank you so much to our chef Alex who supplied this for us, everyone loved them!

Many residents enjoyed the milkshakes so much they had a lot of refills! This was a great way to bring something new into the home and we will definitely be doing it again!

Birthday celebrations for a special lady!

We had a wonderful time celebrating our Margaret's Birthday.

Residents and staff came together to celebrate over a tea party with a delicious homemade cake from Chef, Alex along with cakes and scones.

Margaret had a wonderful day celebrating her special day.

International Nurses Day

Fairview House would like you all to join us to wish all of our Nurses a very happy International Nurses Day.

Nurses at Fairview and around the world celebrate every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.

Lara, Operations Manager at Fairview House would like to thank the amazing Nursing team here for the care compassion and support they give the the Residents families and each other.

Sensory Edible Flower Sculpting

Residents in Memory Lane have enjoyed a sensory edible flower sculpting this week. Everyone had a lovely time creating their own flowers and it was very enjoyable that we got to eat them after!

This is such a simple yet effective activity and has shown a positive reaction with our residents. All you need is some fondant icing and chocolates then you can create whatever you wish!
