Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Tuck shop Trolley

Over the past two days we have all been soaking up the glorious sunshine that we have been having. We have been getting as many residents as we can outside to go on walks and enjoy ice creams together!

We also have now got a tuck shop cart which is filled with delicious sweets and chocolates. Everyone has been loving being able to choose some of their old favourites and reminisce with one another whilst enjoying their sweet bags.

We are going to start taking our tuck shop around the whole home weekly for our residents to enjoy!

Residents mark Alzheimer Awareness month

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Fairview House care home in Aberdeen marked Alzheimer’s Awareness Month which is taking place throughout September.

Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia, the loss of cognitive functioning – thinking, remembering, reasoning – which can affect a person’s day to day life and activities.  Functions that can be impacted are memory, language skills, visual perception, problem solving, self-management and the ability to focus and pay attention.  The number of people living with dementia in the UK is forecast to increase to over 1m.

Walks outside

More sunshine means more lovely walks outside. We all enjoyed soaking up the sun again and getting some exercise in together, hopefully the sun stays out for us all a bit longer. We had a lovely time reminiscing about our days at the beach in the sun and waling our dogs, it was great getting to know each other more and seeing so many smiles.

Baking Club

Today we had a lovely time making marshmallow rice crispie squares. All of our residents loved taking part in this activity and working together to create a delicious treat.

We started by melting chocolate in a bowl and then added in our rice crispies and marshmallows. Once this was all mixed together we added it to a tray and got decorating, these turned out amazing and are so proud of the outcome. In the afternoon we got to enjoy our creations with a lovely cup of tea and they did not disappoint.

Afternoon tea

This afternoon we had our monthly afternoon tea which we had an amazing turn out for again. Everyone loved joining together to enjoy endless teas/ coffee and home-made bakes / sandwiches. It's lovely to see family and friends also join us to socialise with our residents and spend time within the home. This is also a lovely opportunity for residents from all units to come together and form friendships by getting to know one another.

Inside Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
