Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

We had the pleasure of welcoming a few lovely ladies from Granite City SWI for an afternoon visit with our residents. It was a warm and engaging get-together filled with plenty of delicious treats. Everyone enjoyed sampling a variety of cheeses and tapas-style snacks, accompanied by a glass of prosecco.

The ladies spent time chatting with our residents, sharing stories about the work they do and the many informative and enjoyable evenings they host as part of their group. It was fascinating to hear about their activities, and our residents were genuinely interested in learning more.

We’re already looking forward to many more joint social events in the future, and continuing to build these wonderful relationship!

Trip to the Park

We recently enjoyed a pleasant outing to Johnston Gardens, which provided a welcome opportunity to enjoy some fresh air and appreciate the tranquil surroundings.

The gardens were particularly peaceful, and it was lovely to spend time observing the ducks as they glided across the water. The visit offered a refreshing change of pace and a chance to reconnect with nature in a beautifully maintained setting.

Diwali Celebration

The home shared in a wonderful afternoon celebrating Diwali!

Residents enjoyed a fun quiz, discovering fascinating facts about the festival.

Sangeetha, our admin assistant, sang a mesmerizing Indian song, while Bukola wowed us with a graceful dance to Indian rhythms.

This was followed by a delightful food tasting of various Indian sweets and savories—a true treat! The celebration wrapped up with an energetic Bollywood dance performance. A fantastic way to come together, learn, and embrace the spirit of Diwali.

Fairview concert

We had such a great day at Duthie Park, sharing best practices in Dementia Care with Torry Nursing Home, Fairview and Lethen Park. JM provided fantastic music and got everyone on their feet, dancing and singing.

Everyone had so much fun it was difficult for bystanders not to join in. People from all over the park came to join us. We even had some dogs joining. Thank you to Duthie Park management for the perfect venue. This will definitely be a yearly event.

At the end of August, we gathered in Duthie Park in Aberdeen with 2 other homes and some of their residents. This ‘Concert in the Park’ was to promote best practice in dementia care.

We had a singer, some wonderful speeches and A LOT of dancing. All this fun and enjoyment was had by all the residents and staff.

Diwali Celebrations

We had a truly wonderful day celebrating Diwali with all our residents. The home was filled with colour, music, and the joyful spirit of the festival. Everyone enjoyed sampling a variety of traditional Indian sweet and savoury treats, many of which were new to some of us, and all of which were delicious!

A special highlight was a musical performance by our Assistant Administrator, who sang beautifully and brought a lovely energy to the room. We also had fun learning some traditional dance moves, which added to the festive atmosphere and gave everyone a chance to get involved.

Alongside the music and dancing, we took time to learn about the history and meaning behind Diwali. The day ended with lots of laughter, dancing, and a real sense of togetherness. It was a celebration to remember and one that brought smiles to many faces.

Cheese & Prosecco with the SWI

Residents at Fairview House Care Home in Aberdeen were treated to a delightful afternoon of cheese and prosecco, bringing together good company, great conversation, and a touch of indulgence.

The event, hosted in the home’s beautifully decorated lounge, welcomed special guests from the Granite City Chapter of the Scottish Women’s Institute, who joined residents for a relaxed and sociable gathering. A carefully curated selection of cheeses and accompaniments was served alongside chilled glasses of prosecco, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Flower arranging

Throughout July and August we donated flowers from our local marks and spencers. We took the opportunity to make some beautiful displays in the home.  The dining room in particular looked beautiful. Our residents always jump at the chance to help with the flowers, it gives them joy and a sense of purpose.

We usually have a cup of tea and enjoy some chatting with music in the background to have a lovely experience.

Blue Light Breakfast

Blue Light Breakfast

We were delighted to welcome our local fire fighting heroes to our Blue Light Breakfast Event.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Andy, Matt, Jason, and Andy from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, North Anderson Drive. They enjoyed a delicious sausage and bacon butty and gave an insightful discussion on fire safety in care homes.

We hope to welcome back our local firefighters soon.

Bus trip to Dobbies Garden Centre

We had a lovely outing recently with a bus trip to our local garden centre, Dobbies. The whole place was beautifully decorated for Christmas, which really helped get us into the festive spirit. Twinkling lights, sparkling trees, and cheerful displays made it a joy to walk around and soak up the atmosphere.

Of course, no visit would be complete without a stop at the café, so we treated ourselves to some delicious scones and teas while we were there. It was a nice chance to relax, chat, and enjoy the surroundings.

We also came away with plenty of inspiration for decorating the home this Christmas. From wreaths and table settings to creative lighting ideas, there was lots to spark our imagination. All in all, it was a wonderful day out that left everyone feeling cheerful and festive.

Pumpkin Fun

Pumpkin Fun

We had a spooktacular time decorating pumpkins! Our residents, staff, and relatives joined in and enjoyed the fun.

We're sure you'll agree that our residents creations were stunning and colourful and have taken pride of place around the home.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest

We had an amazing time celebrating Oktoberfest! Fairview transformed into a buzzing pub for the afternoon, complete with plenty of beer, giant pretzels, and a quiz master hosting an epic pub quiz.

Huge congratulations to Team Unstoppables, led by Debbie, for their victory, and a big shout out to Brew Dog for providing the beers and outfitting the bartenders with fresh tees. We wrapped up the event with a few dances, the perfect ending to an unforgettable day. Prost!

Summer fayre

In August we celebrated with a summer fayre. It was a very lively atmosphere with stalls selling bags, jewellery, and handmade resin items. We sold candy floss and that was a huge hit with kids and adults alike. We had burgers and hotdogs to eat and fizzy juice to wash them down.

Tombola raffle and face paint went down a treat. We also had a magician and a singer to entertain all the residents and their family members.
