Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Sensory story telling

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Virtual Book Club

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Shrove Tuesday

The staff and residents at Fairview House care home in Aberdeen have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day celebrations.

Fairview House has marked this year’s Pancake Day with making their very own pancakes from scratch and using our mini pancake makers to cook them, followed by adding as many delicious toppings as we want! Artur, head chef at the home, flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents.

Artur said: “My secret to the best pancakes is all in the whipping. Give it some elbow grease when mixing the batter and you’ll get perfect pancakes every time. I like experimenting with the fillings – the residents’ favourites are Chocolate spread, whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate buttons.

Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea

This morning we created some delicious chocolate slabs, it was really simple but so enjoyable at the same time! We highly recommend making them.

We just melted some chocolate poured it out on parchment paper and then decorated the top with loads of different treats.

These then got put in the fridge to set and where brought out for our afternoon tea later on in the day. They turned out amazing and everyone said they were just as tasty!

Our Valentine's Afternoon Tea had another fantastic turn out and it was so lovely seeing everyone from all units coming together, alongside family members joining us as well. We already can't wait for the next one!

Once Upon a Tune with Diana Peers

This afternoon we had a lovely visit from Diana Peers who got us all together to sing, dance and play some musical instruments.

It was so amazing seeing everyone getting involved and enjoying themselves so much. It was smiles all round and we can definitely say we will be sleeping well tonight after all that movement!

A huge well done to everyone involved and making this afternoon so enjoyable.

A trip to Italy!

This morning in our Memory Lane community we went on a trip to Italy. We got our boarding passes and put our holiday outfits on! After this we had arrived in our very own pizzeria where we made some delicious pizzas!

We then learnt all about the country & enjoyed some Italian snacks. In the afternoon we got to enjoy our pizzas alongside some ice cream! Everyone had an amazing time and we already can't wait for our next trip!
