Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

MAKING SPECIAL MEMORIES

Wow, just wow!

What a truly heartwarming afternoon making special memories for our wonderful Alyson.

Alyson told us ‘It would be my dream to see a parade of dogs’.

So with the incredible help from our totally wonderful community, we were able to make that happen for her today!

Doggies and their owners took a walk around our garden before coming in one by one to get lots of fuss, treats and tennis balls from Alyson and the rest of our residents.

We had plenty of cuddles, ate lots of cake and spent time together all whilst listening to Jj Wilde play the Saxophone so beautifully.

None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for our community and beyond. THANK YOU so much to everyone who joined us! We are beyond grateful.

Another huge thank you to our staff who supported the event, especially our fantastic kitchen team who made us an abundance of cakes and biscuits.

A truly moving afternoon!

KNIT & NATTER

A new group here at Cumberland Grange has evolved - Knit & Natter.

Lead by our resident Jean, we came together for a good ol’ chin wag and shared some of our skills and knowledge in the world of knitting.

We have other weekly groups which take place here at Cumberland Grange so if knitting is not your thing then we also have:

• Politics & Pastries
• Poetry Club
• Gardening Club
• Cumberland Grange Choir
• Yoga
• Gentle Seated Exercise

In between our regular group activities we also do weekly mini bus trip outings, have live music entertainment, visits from many different animals, baking classes, movie nights, games, relaxation sessions, story telling and more!

Our residents are at the heart of all of our activities.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Love has certainly been in the air today!

This afternoon our residents, family, friends and community enjoyed live music, plenty of cocktails and some delicious sweet treats.

We sang and we shimmied along to the amazing Ian who sang some of our favourite songs!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, it’s been a day full of love.

Raising money for FORCE Cancer Charity

We would love to thank everyone once again for joining us this morning for our fundraiser, raising money for the wonderful FORCE Cancer Charity.

We had such a brilliant morning with our residents, family members, friends, our community and professionals including our brilliant local PCSO’s and the lovely Julia from Hospital Radio Exeter.

Any amount raised is a truly special thing, and tomorrow we will find out the exact total of what was so very kindly donated.

Thank you Ceri from FORCE for joining us and helping us to serve cake, give out raffle tickets and spending time with some of our residents!

& of course, thank you SO much to those businesses who supported our event by donating goodies: Greendale Farm Shop, Zunzun, Illumine Candle Co., Waitrose and Tesco. You’re all amazing.
