Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

A dog is for life

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

...And Relax

Explaining the difference between activities and life and enrichment is always a bit tricky…. Until you look at this photo. One of the elements we aim to fulfil is giving the residents opportunities to feel a sense of purpose and to be able to do ‘ordinary things’. A spontaneous massage for Morgan on Memory Lane was very welcome, we are thinking of getting Audrey an appointment book!

My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece...

….. quote from Claude Monet and we believe our gardens at Cheshire Grange are quite beautiful too and that we need to spend as much time enjoying their natural beauty as we can.

So when the sun is shining a garden stroll is the order of the day, giving the residents and staff from various departments the chance to soak in all the experiences the garden offers, scented lavender, bird song, soft grass, bright colours, there is such a mix of sensory experiences to be had that more than one turn around the grounds is never enough.

On Safari

We were out and about on a Cheshire Grange Adventure with residents, this week were headed to Knowsley Safari Park. As we all our outings the fun starts with the turn of the ignition key, before we had left the carpark residents were singing along to Buddy Holly.

After the  spell of hot weather we’d had it was truly like we were on Safari, with the sun, burned grass and dusty plains where the animals were lazing in the shade, or in shallow mud pits. Residents saw lots of species of deer & antelope, the camels, rhinoceroses and of course the baboons. We didn’t brave the drive through the enclosure, but watched from the perimeter fence, the highlight for most were seeing the majestic lions, whilst keeping the windows tightly wound up!!!

The Hospitality team had prepared us a picnic, which we sat on the bus and ate before heading home to a Beatles sing a long.

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Art Historian virtual talk

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.
