Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Arts and Crafts for Alzheimer's Cupcake Day

Residents who live in our Memory Lane Community wanted to support Alzheimer's Cupcake Day with a morning of Arts and Crafts. Two of our residents proved their artistic talents by creating colourful butterflies to be displayed in the sensory garden and around Memory Lane. The morning's work was completed with a cup of tea and a home made cupcake!

An afternoon at the Block and Tackle

An afternoon at the Block and Tackle

Some of our residents were invited by the management of our local pub, the Block and Tackle, to enjoy an afternoon of Bingo, Raffle and other entertainment. Residents had a lovely afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the High Tea provided for them!

The Barchester Entertainment Cart

The Barchester Entertainment Cart

The Barchester Entertainment Cart is a feature in our reception area that we update every month with a theme. Our most recent theme was Dementia Awareness, and it went down brilliantly. The items on the cart were to raise awareness and a talking point for residents visitors and staff.

Gardening Club

Many of the ladies and gentleman have ‘green fingers’ and have taken up the challenge to regenerate our garden. Their aim is to enter Barchester in Bloom – not to win, but to take part. Delores and Dulcie got their hands dirty and planted the seeds into the hanging basket. The end result is fabulous and we look forward to seeing them bloom.

The King Comes to Woodhorn

The King Comes to Woodhorn

Elvis was in Woodhorn Park for the afternoon; he stopped off to entertain the residents prior to travelling to Vegas. Residents thoroughly enjoyed being serenaded by The King of Rock 'n' Roll and jiving the afternoon away.

The Taste Test

The team of Woodhorn Park strive to underpin the values of Barchester in all aspects of care delivery and one of these is to gain the trust of residents.

We hosted a taste test session with a difference; each resident was offered a blindfold to wear prior to testing the food to see if they could guess what they were eating. The activity was enjoyed by all!
