Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

London Fashion Week

Staff and residents used London Fashion Week as a great excuse to talk about what fashion means to them and to reminisce about different outfits they had worn over the years.  Staff and residents swapped photos of their favourite outfits, talked about clothes they had made themselves or that they had bought or had made for special occasions.

Residents then put together their own design with the activity team and with material and bits and bobs brought their design to life and what a design team they were.

Celebrating Valentine's Day

Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats.

They tasted even better as they were baked by them. Residents said that they enjoyed baking and it had been a lovely day as everyone put so much effort it.

Chinese New Year

We welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.

The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY dragons and made beautiful lanterns to mark the day.

They also tried some authentic dishes made by our Chef.

Master Florist tutorial

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Big Quiz of the Year

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
