Activities at Harper Fields Care Home

There is always something to do here at Harper Fields and always someone to assist the residents in any activity they wish to take part in. We have entertainers come into the home to sing and play instruments on a weekly basis, as well as visits from PAT dogs, hairdressers, massage therapists and nail technicians to pamper those who live here. Residents' spiritual needs are taken into account at Harper Fields; we have regular services from the Catholic and Methodist church, in addition to the Church of England, and for our non-religious residents, we have a weekly calming and peaceful ‘mindfulness and meditation group,’ which is very popular, especially for those living with dementia. Residents often like to attend cinema evenings to watch their favourite films on the big screen (complete with sweets and popcorn), or develop new skills at our computer classes, where they can learn how to Skype their families in other countries. Our activities are tailored to suit the individual interests and capabilities of residents and our specialised equipment enables those we support to enjoy everything we have to offer.

Life at Harper Fields Care Home

Comedy from Jimmy Riddle

Harper fields residents actually ‘Belly’ laughed at comedy entertainer Jimmy Riddle. We had a bit of everything today from comedy, magic, singing, balloon artistry to finally dancing.  A superb afternoon of fun, we were still giggling hours later.

VR Experience

Harper fields residents had their very first VR Experience today.  Recreo Vr helped broaden our horizons today. The headsets help residents rediscover their favourite places in the world and share them with their friends. They really help boost their wellbeing. One resident Alan said “These headsets are incredible. They blew me away”.

Happy Birthday Vi!

Harper fields oldest resident Vi Bennett turned 101 years old this month. Vi’s son Peter travelled down from Scotland to help her celebrate her special day. Vi’s daughter Carolyn came with lots of cards and presents. Vi also enjoyed a delicious ‘Cup cake’ Cake. Created by our hospitality team. We had live music and dancing on the day. Vi said “I’ve had such a good time I can’t wait till I’m 102”.

Dogs Trust

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

RAF Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

110th Birthday party at Cubbington Mill

Harper fields sister home, Cubbington Mill invited our residents to a very special birthday party this month.  John who is a resident at Cubbington Mill celebrated his 110th birthday.

We were ecstatic to be invited. Those residents who wanted to attend were able to as Harper fields have their own mini bus. Volunteer driver Stuart happily drove us to the party. As the celebrations went on and the prosecco was poured we were able to meet and make lots of new friends. Cllr Alix Dearing Kenilworth Abbey, Mayor of Kenilworth couldn’t resist a cheeky photo opportunity with Alan from Harper fields.
