Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

Farewell to Liz

Our lovely residents threw a lovely little tea party for our fabulous Liz who used to be on activities, Liz has decided to retire but it's definitely not the last we will see of her. The residents all had some lovely words to say and it got very emotional. We had lots of laughs and a few tears, far too much cake and a really good catch up. Liz was famous for her reminiscence groups and everyone loved attending. Joan said 'I honestly miss seeing Liz and hearing all her stories from the past, I'm still enjoying reminiscence but Liz was just exceptional at it.

It's not goodbye Liz it's simply see very soon!

Tom serenade’s the residents

On Valentine’s Day this year our amazing carer Tom put on the most spectacular performance for our residents. Tom was on shift for valentine’s day but wanted to give the residents a day to remember so he put down his gloves and picked up his mic, he sang to us all, It was a truly magical day. Marjorie said ‘ Tom is outstanding, he sings so beautifully and we have all had the best day’ The lounge was fit to burst and the sounds of Toms incredible voice filled the corridors. Our hairdresser Jane could hear from the front of the home in the salon and said she just had to join in, Jane said ‘it’s so emotional seeing how the residents are having the time of their lives’ We feel so incredibly proud to have team members like Tom.

Love is in the air at Cherry Trees

Cherry was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day this year. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by telling their love stories and sharing special moments from their past, creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and feeling the love all around. Our  Manager, Debbie, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day decorating the home and sharing our wonderful love stories. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!” Brenda, a resident at Cherry Trees said: “It has been really lovely day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get involved with the day’s festivities. I really liked listening to the others love stories, it really did bring back fond memories of my husband.”

20th anniversary at Cherry Trees

Cherry Trees care home, has entered into the Alcester window wonderland to celebrate 20 years of serving the local community. Alcester window wonderland is a community project where the community transform Alcester into a magical outdoor gallery every January.

Staff, residents and guests commemorated this special occasion with a games day complete with skittles, hoopla, and balloon tennis followed by a special cake made by the kitchen staff.

Cherry Trees has built up excellent reputations within its local communities. The home regularly holds events and activities for its residents and surrounding neighbours.

General Manager, Debbie Osborne said: “It is important to recognise the hard work of our staff here at Cherry Trees care home.  For the past 20 years, we have provided a caring home for our residents as well as the best possible environment for our staff.  Today not only enables us to celebrate their hard work, but it's also an opportunity to thank the residents, their relatives and friends who have made Cherry Trees such a loving home.”

Tom and Annette sing for the residents

December we had the privilege of our very own carers Tom and Annette come and perform for us here at Cherry Trees.

We were truly blessed to have them perform for us on Christmas eve and the residents had a magical day listening to them sing.

Marj said ‘its honestly the best performance we have ever had and I do hope they sing for us again soon’ Meg said ‘ it’s just magical’

We all look forward to many more performances to come and feel so lucky to have such amazing carers who go above and beyond for our residents here at Cherry Trees.

Residents remember the fallen on Armistice Day

Cherry Trees commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent. We joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month. As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two-minute silence, residents took part in many crafting activities as well as trips out to St. Peters church in Wellesbourne.

Residents visited the church where we saw the stunning poppy cascade of 8,000 knitted poppies which had been installed down the side of St. Peters church tower. It was a huge community project; the bright red poppy cascade was originally meant to include 4,000 poppies but the enthusiasm for the project meant more and more poppies were created.

Audrey, a resident at Cherry Trees, said: “I've never seen something like this, it's so beautiful and made me feel like crying, it was very emotional” Anthea said, “It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.”
