Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

Life at Cherry Trees Care Home

Donkey Sanctuary

Staff and residents across our services were treated to a virtual tour of The Donkey Sanctuary Manchester, hosted by Centre Manager, Melanie McComb.

Residents joined Melanie live from Manchester to get an inside look into the daily care for the herd of donkeys that live at the Sanctuary and meet some of the fantastic characters there; namely Henry and his friend Tiny Tim. They learned how the Donkey Sanctuary was first created by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE back in 1969 and the first donkey that started off all of her important work and how her legacy continues today.

Melanie says: “It was wonderful to be able to show the Barchester residents around the Donkey Sanctuary here in Manchester and to share the work we do.  We were so happy to be able to show the residents our wonderful donkeys and talk about how we rescue and care for them.”

Theatre Trip

Minibus trips are now taking place again and on the 11th June some of our residents went on a trip to Birmingham Hippodrome to watch a performance of ‘Singing in the Rain.’ The show was amazing from the costumes to the dancing; the set and music. Our residents were particularly impressed by how the performers kept dancing when the stage was soaking wet from all the ‘rain’ that they poured onto the stage. We had a fantastic time and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We can’t wait to go back again for another show.

Easter

It was Cherry Trees Easter fete on Saturday and everyone had a ‘eggceptionally’ good time. Residents and their families got to enjoy our fantastic tombola and exciting raffle. We were also joined by the wonderful Melissa Hollick - Session Singer & Composer who entertained us with some vintage hits and local business such as the delicious Sweet Delights - Alcester, the very talented Foxy Faces Face Painting and the amazingly crafty crafter Dani Worm joined us for a lovely afternoon. Residents and their families had a lovely time and even the sun came out.

Getting Crafty

Over the last week we have been enjoying a number of arts and crafts session. In Young At Heart we had a go at print making using polystyrene tiles and used plants, different ornaments, and our imaginations to create fantastic patterns and designs. On Memory Lane we started to make a Spring wreath using a pre-made ring and egg cartons for the flowers we also have had fun creating egg trees for Easter and marbling techniques to create amazing pieces of Art work.

Tickled Pink

Residents had an amazing time when they enjoyed an amazing performance from the fantastic Tickled Pink Productions and their show Wonderful West End. Everyone got involved singing and dancing along in their seats. They did all the show time classics and had to many costume changes to count! Residents had so much fun and can’t wait to welcome them back again!

Holi Hindu Festival

We celebrated both Holi (the Hindu festival of colour) and Red Nose Day. As part of the festivities, we welcomed two amazing dancers from the Bollywood dance dreams dance company. We enjoyed their upbeat and mesmerising performance and even learned a few moves ourselves before joining in with the special performance. We were able to learn the meaning behind many of their dance moves including their portrayal of body jewellery! We hope to welcome them back soon as.
