Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

Life at Cherry Trees Care Home

Tickled Pink Theatre Show

Travelling theatre company, Tickled Pink came to Cherry Trees to perform their spring show ‘Fit for a King’. It was a lovely afternoon of singing and dancing and residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance. We are looking forward to welcoming Tickled Pink back again for their Autumn and Christmas shows later in the year.

World Scrabble Day

Cherry Trees residents celebrated World Scrabble Day with a Scrabble Tournament in our café. It was a great morning and although it got competitive at times and we had to break out the dictionary, everyone had a lot of fun.

Cherry Trees U3A Group Enjoy Poetry Reading

Our residents have been asking for some different sorts of activities and so we decided to set up a University of the Third Age Group which will meet monthly and where we will have speakers come and talk about a variety of different topics. This month we enjoyed a very interesting talk from Poet, Dennis East. Dennis entertained us with some stories about his life and read us some of his poetry, which is autobiographical in the style of Pam Ayres. One resident, Marjorie said ‘it was so funny. I’ve had a lovely afternoon.’

Magical Goings On

Residents were spellbound when Magician, Dominic Twose came to visit Cherry Trees. He entertained us with his card tricks and making things disappear. Anthea was amazed when the card she had written her name on appeared in his pocket when she had placed it back into the pack of cards. We were looking very closely but nobody could work out how he did it.

Primary School Visit

On St David’s Day we were visited by pupils from Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School who joined us to do some Welsh themed art work. The residents loved meeting the school children and talking to them about their lives. Our resident, Ann was happy to answer all their questions about her childhood during The Second World War and in turn, the children talked about their hopes and dreams for the future and what they would like to do when they grow up.

Another resident, Eileen had some advice for the children ‘if there’s something you enjoy you’ve got to keep on doing it because one day, you might find you can’t do it anymore.’ We will be doing more activities with Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School over the coming months.

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.
