Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Chinese new year celebrations

Some of our residents enjoyed tasting Chinese vegetable spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, prawn crackers, banana fritters and nibbles. All resident said the banana fritters tasted lovey! Thanks to Scott, the chef, for making them for us. We spoke about different Chinese foods but some of the residents said they were very plain eaters and was nice just to have little tasters like this.

Happy New Year from Archview Lodge!

We celebrated here at Archview. We held a big new year’s party with our entertainer Allan Weatherhead. Our residents loved singing along clapping their hands and tapping there feet and some residents even got up for a dance. Our residents always enjoys seeing Allan back here at Archview. All residents enjoyed having a wee drink and some nibbles. We also had a surprise from Iain who joined us afterwards playing the bagpipes! Our residents enjoyed listening to the bagpipes and a couple of residents were crying with happiness.

Beautiful Knitting for a little girl

One of our residents here at Archview loves to knit. Margaret was so so happy when she handed over a hat and scarf to Astrid, one of our carers daughter. Astird was over the moon when she got handed the hat and scarf. Astrid has a smile from ear to ear and so did Margaret. Margaret said how nice was it to see someone actually wearing what I’ve knitted.

Good Luck James! We will miss you!

Good luck to our administrator James in your new job. James has worked her at Archview lodge care home for 19 years. James' new job will be helping other Barchester care homes in the Division as a senior regional administrator. James will be missed here at Archview by residents, staff and family members! All the best in your new job James.

Virtual event with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Cake competition

Residents enjoyed showing their creative sides as they helped the homes chef and kitchen assistant to make the Christmas cake.  Once the cake was completed it was submitted to Barchester's annual Christmas cake competition. Good luck to all the entrants.
