Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home

,

Pamper Mornings

Wood Grange residents have been enjoying a pamper morning which has been scheduled on Tuesday mornings, we are extremely lucky to have Gosia as a member of staff at Wood Grange who is trained in the beauty field.  The residents have been enjoying facials, Indian head massages, manicures and hand massages. This is very popular with our residents as Gosia creates an Spa atmosphere which is extremely relaxing for them. The smiles on their faces, says it all.

Potato Picking

Residents from Memory Lane enjoyed getting in the garden on a sunny Saturday afternoon to pull up potatoes, the ladies then later joined by one of our gentleman worked well as a team.  They were pulling them up which then led to a gardening treasure hunt for these lovely baby sweet potatoes.  The residents enjoyed the feeling of the soil which gave them great satisfaction of finding the little potatoes, the bigger the potato the bigger the satisfaction.  They  did a great job with clearing the dirt using dustpan and brushes.  Our residents enjoy activities that allow them to connect with nature and work together, this fit the bill perfectly.

Virtual Tour of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Home host Caribbean themed party

Wood Grange in Bourne decided to celebrate the summer with a themed Caribbean party after a family member sowed the idea.  Residents, their relatives and staff all got involved with the spirit of the Caribbean and the carnival vibe was felt throughout the home and dressed up in bright colours, wearing leis, dressing as pirates and donning shell tops to match the theme!

The idea was originally formed by a resident’s daughter, Karen whose father is from Jamaica and whose mother resides here at the home. Both have had many happy years living on the island.

History of Wall's icecream

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

Wood Grange Sports Day

We arranged to take a couple of our residents to Bourne Westfield Primary School to watch the year 3 sports day, this brought back memories of their children’s sports day and even their own.  They enjoyed meeting the teachers and pupils, and being out in the sunshine. They did a great job cheering the children on and applauding them. This photo is of the Activities Son holding up the winning cup won by the Yellow team.
