Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Sarah Smith

Assistant Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Wadhurst Manor in many different roles since December 2011. Prior to this I worked as a nurse, exercise teacher and and preschool supervisor. I have 4 lovely children who are now grown up and travelling the world. My hobbies include visiting my children, singing, dancing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, reading and amateur dramatics.I find enabling residents to remain active and engaged both physically and mentally is a wonderfully rewarding job. I particularly enjoy working on our memory lane units becoming immersed in their realities, enabling them to live their best lives by concentrating on what they can do not what they can't.

Life at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

The Grand National

Residents and staff enjoyed a lovely afternoon, where they playfully bet on the horses and dressed up in fancy hats in honour of the occasion. The hats had all been donated by the local Wadhurst community to ensure the residents were able to enjoy the day in its entirety.

Welcome Back!

We recently opened our doors to one family member per resident. One family member has been allowed back into the building for a long awaited room visit with their loved one.

St Patrick's Day

On the 17th March, we celebrated St Patrick's Day with the residents. We enjoyed a beer with those who wanted and the residents enjoyed taking photos in our photo booth.

Women's Day

On the 8th March, we enjoyed International Women’s Day with the wonderful residents. To celebrate the occasion, each of our lady residents was given a single rose with the words, ‘where there is a woman there is magic!’ They also enjoyed a glass of prosecco with a side of strawberries!

Making wishes come true.

Jimmy, a residents at Wadhurst Manor has been making string shopping bags for a few years now. At 96 years young he has made over 100. They have been so popular with everyone. that he has been giving them to local groups to sell raising  money for Charity. Staff at the home spoke with a local store Buy the Weigh in neighbouring village Ticehurst to see if he could sell his homemade bags there with all proceeds going to the Salvation Army. To make his wish a reality, Co owner Susan at the shop was more than happy to display and sell the bags for him.
