Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Sarah Smith

Assistant Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Wadhurst Manor in many different roles since December 2011. Prior to this I worked as a nurse, exercise teacher and and preschool supervisor. I have 4 lovely children who are now grown up and travelling the world. My hobbies include visiting my children, singing, dancing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, reading and amateur dramatics.I find enabling residents to remain active and engaged both physically and mentally is a wonderfully rewarding job. I particularly enjoy working on our memory lane units becoming immersed in their realities, enabling them to live their best lives by concentrating on what they can do not what they can't.

Easter Cake

Residents at Wadhurst Manor thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the Easter Cake Competition. A planning session took place in our coffee Lounge were residents scoured the internet, magazines and cook books for ideas, they liked 2 ideas so decided to combine them. Pictures and recipes were then shown to our 2nd chef who went shopping and prepared all the ingredients for us. Our residents on memory Lane then took over making the sponge and reminiscing about baking. Once the cake was baked and iced it was time to decorate, everyone was delighted with the result. It took pride of place on Easter Sunday and although it looked too good to eat everyone soon tucked in saying it tasted as good as it looked.

Mother's Day

Our residents celebrated this year’s Mother's Day with singer, Debbie Haze. Debbie entertained our residents and staff, in the afternoon, whilst everyone was enjoying a selection of cakes and drinks.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Here at Wadhurst Manor we've been celebrating all day with Ireland activity workbooks, St. Patrick's Day themed bingo and Irish singalongs (Memory Lane & Ground Floor) with singer Lesley Ryan.

We also enjoyed a delicious Irish stew for lunch and Guinness cakes too!

What a busy day! We'll definitely sleep well tonight!

Freestyle Café Outing

Our residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon out at the local Freestyle Café, enjoying tea and cakes. They also had the chance to meet up with former staff members and a puppy which is a regular customer there.

Live Music

Our residents and staff  were delighted to welcome back Michael Lack - saxophonist who entertained us with a variety of jazz songs. He brought back lovely memories to many of our residents.

Real Bread Week

We reached out to our friends in the community and re-established our link with the Mount Camphill Community. Students made wonderful bread rolls in the bakery which they dropped up for our residents to enjoy with their soup at supper time. We are looking forward to many more joint ventures.
