Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Nicola Blevins-Twose

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nicola (Nic) and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Tixover House.

My role is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities, entertainers and outings. At Tixover House we offer something for everyone, including crafts, games, virtual visits to places of interest around the world, outings in the local area and parties.  We also provide one-to-one time and sensory activities with residents who need more support. Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meeting we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Tixover House.

I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones. 'Living life to the full' is my motto, and whatever your ability there is always something new to learn or try.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Local Care Home Supports Mental Health Awareness

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Tixover House care home in Rutland have been marking Mental Health Awareness Week by holding a series of small events to get together with friends and community contacts to tackle a big issue that affects many of us - anxiety. Tixover House care home was proud to host its inaugural Well Being café, open to our residents, family members and staff.

Coronation Day Celebrations

Excitement was in the air as we all celebrated the highly anticipated Coronation of King Charles III in style.

Our home was beautifully decorated with themed flags, banners and red, white and blue balloons, setting the stage for a grand royal afternoon tea party.

The whole home came together, along with families, friends and local community members to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering. Our talented chef prepared an assortment of delicious sweet and savoury treats for all to enjoy, accompanied by a glass of prosecco.

Gardening Club

A group of green-fingered residents at our Tixover House Care Home took part in our weekly gardening club.

Our residents meet up once a week to tend to the care home gardens by planting seeds and watering the flowers.

They’ve also planted a variety of vegetables including tomatoes and a variety of herbs, which will be harvested later this year.

Musical Entertainment

Our residents and colleagues were thrilled to welcome back, Leslie Ann and Kelly Rose, a mother and daughter double act who wowed our residents with a spectacular set of pop favourites.

residents and their family members enjoyed a wonderful afternoon filled with song, dance and laughter as Leslie and Kelly put on a show stopping performance. featuring classic songs such as Que Sera Sera and Daisy Bell.

St George's Day

Staff and residents celebrated the patron Saint of England, St George with a special themed lunch and plenty of fun filled activities throughout the day.

April 23 is widely recognised to have been the day of St George's death. Therefore annual celebrations mark the anniversary of his passing in 303 AD. In the early 4th century, St George became a martyr after he was executed during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian.

Happy St George's Day from our home to yours.

Film Lovers Day

A perfect excuse to grab some popcorn and get ready for a movie!

Films provide us with an enjoyable avenue to explore different characters, cultures, and locations from the comfort of our own home. We can learn from the stories and themes shared, gaining insight into different perspectives, issues, or ideas we may not have access to in our everyday lives.
