Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

A visit from Fell Dyke School

We had a great visit from some pupils from Fell Dyke primary school. First we started by writing out postcards to send to the King which were fab.

We then coloured in some of King Charles crowns followed by a discussion of what we would do if we were King or Queen for a day. The best suggestion was help the homeless.

Afternoon tea with Beacon Lough Baptist Church

Our lovely residents went along to Beacon Lough Baptist Church for their coronation afternoon tea. We took part in prayer, singing and a good old natter.

Thank you for having us, we hope to see you soon.

Discovery Zoo

Last week we had a visit from Paul who brought along some furry and some exotic animals for our residents to look at and even hold!

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed this activity and have asked when he will be back in…

Coronation talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Easter cake competition

Excitement is running high at Springvale Court in Wrekenton, Gateshead where residents and staff have been cooking up a storm to enter parent company Barchester Healthcare’s Easter Cake competition.  Details of the competition were announced earlier this year and the home has been busy coming up with, what they hope, will be a winning design.

The competition is being run by Barchester Healthcare across its 250 care homes and private hospitals so the home has some stiff competition to beat. Pride is at stake as chefs and residents at each of the homes across the country battle it out.  Judging will take place just after Easter and the winning cakes for each of Barchester’s divisions will be announced at the end of April.

St. Patrick's Day

Today we have celebrated st.Patrick’s day. Our residents were full or cheer. We even put on our leprechaun hats and waved our flags for all to see.

We had a cheeky glass of Guinness and Baileys to finish the day. We think Irish dancing should be on our activities programme, we can always practice for next year…
