Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

Mental health awareness week

Today we took time to talk about mental health and what it means to each of us. Some residents said it’s a bad thing and some didn’t quite know the answer. We then went on to explain how mental health is the condition of our psychological and emotional wellbeing and that it isn’t always a bad thing. This then led us to talking about the stigmas around mental health…

We had some sheets to fill in which allowed us to think about our own feelings, this was extremely beneficial for our residents as they openly talked about their feelings with fellow peers, something which isn’t always easy to do.

BINGO!

We had a game of picture bingo, the theme being vegetables. This created a great space for discussion about what we like and dislike.

One resident told us that she loves carrots because of the bright orange colour. Another agreed and said that they like the fluffy green tops when they are growing in the ground.

We had an intense game of bingo, each resident won 'cash' prize which really put a smile on everyone's face.

Rainbows for our nurses

Our residents have been colouring away on memory lane.

We coloured in the rainbows as they are recognised for their links to NHS and our nurses. Whilst we sat and coloured we talked about how the nurses have helped us in life.

One resident talked about their fathers experience as a mental health nurse and another talking about how they are always smiling when they come to Springvale.

This was a great time to reflect on how the nurses have impacted our lives.

Coronation afternoon tea

This afternoon we held our coronation afternoon tea, it went down a treat.

We had lots of yummy treats available for all residents, for those who couldn’t make it down we served some treats on a themed tray. We also had a bit of tipple which, as always keeps everyone happy.

We had a brilliant time we hope you enjoy the rest of the coronation weekend

Discovery Zoo

Last week we had a visit from Paul who brought along some furry and some exotic animals for our residents to look at and even hold!

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed this activity and have asked when he will be back in. one resident told us that they loved it that much they wish he could come every day. The animals he brought in included a Geko, Tortoise, snake and Guinea pigs.
