Activities at Overslade House Care Home
Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.
At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.
We definitely have something for everyone!
Julie Bateman
Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.
I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.
I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!
Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. Life at Overslade House Care Home
Baby Shower
Staff and residents at Overslade House celebrated with a baby shower for one of our Nurse Managers, Glory Rajamani. Glory is expecting a baby girl in December.
General Manager, Violeta Baesu, said: “We shall miss Glory but we are really looking forward to meeting her baby girl.
Head Chef Joanne Kolat-Furca made homemade samosas, pancake rolls and various other nibbles and also a beautiful homemade cake adorned with pink sprinkles.
Ruth, a relative of one of our residents said: “oh this looks absolutely beautiful, and well deserved Glory is such a lovely person and always so helpful”.
Rugby in Bloom
Staff and residents at Overslade House care home were pleased to attend an awards Ceremony at The Benn Hall in Rugby
Residents John, Maureen, Liz, Jean and John had a wonderful evening enjoying the live entertainment and refreshments whilst waiting for the awards to be handed out for Rugby in Bloom.
Rugby’s high standards have once again paid off in the Heart of England in Bloom Awards.
The town took gold for the 15th time in a row.
Rugby Mayor Maggie O'Rourke attended the award ceremony at Sutton Coldfield's Harvest Fields Centre, where Rugby was presented with a gold award in the 'small city' category. Overslade House were proud to receive the Gold Award in the Community Group category with our floral displays and our living Rugby Ball.
Ann a resident at the home said “we are so lucky to have beautiful gardens here and staff and residents always put on a wonderful display of flowers each year and definitely deserve Gold for their efforts”
Retail Therapy
Staff and residents at Overslade House care home were pleased to welcome Wanda’s Fashions of Dunchurch and also Tropic Skin and Beauty Care.
Residents had a brilliant time browsing through a wonderful array of clothes, scarves and jewellery and also Tropic Skin products that are completely chemical free and only contain natural ingredients.
Liz, a resident said: “It has been a lovely social afternoon getting together with other residents and friends and relatives and being able to take your time browsing the clothes and beauty products”.
International Day Of Charity
The International Day of Charity was established to mobilise people to volunteer to help others through philanthropic acts. The date of 5 September was chosen in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace."
Staff and residents spent time discussing the various charities they had been involved with over the years and the work they had done to raise funds for causes close to their hearts. Residents were also very happy to meet Louise and her dog Reenie who is a Guide Dog. Louise gave a talk on how Guide Dogs are chosen and trained to become an assistance dog for visually impaired people. Louise and Reenie then visited residents in their rooms. Overslade House residents also made a donation to the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Dressed to Impress
The Historic Royal Palaces are a charity who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world so that we can all enjoy them. They tell the stories of monarchs we know, and the lives we don’t, letting us explore these wonderful properties and setting our minds racing.
In his virtual Royal tea party sensory session, art historian and Georgian gentleman, Jon Sleigh, shared secrets from the collection at Hampton Court Palace about Georgian fashion, beauty and palace life. Residents were invited to sip their tea or hot chocolate and indulge in a sweet treat or two while Jon spilt the beans on what fashion plate courtiers got up to centuries ago.
Jon said: “It was an absolute pleasure to talk to the residents today about life in Hampton Court palace in Georgian times and what fashions royal courtiers wore and how they did their hair and make-up. I really enjoyed getting the residents to taste along with me – it was a great session!"
Pet therapy visit during Alzheimer's month
To mark Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, our residents were treated to a visit from some beautiful therapy pets. Animals have a wonderful calming effect and the residents love to stroke them, talk to them and play with them.
Our home was visited by pet therapy dog who caused a great deal of excitement. Our residents truly enjoyed the visit, they petted and fed the animals who seemed to appreciate meeting their new friends. All our residents are fascinated by animals, so we were delighted to organise this lovely experience for them.
