Activities at Ottley House Care Home

At Ottley House, we offer a person-centred activities programme, and aim to match residents' abilities and interests with meaningful activities of the correct degree of challenge that promotes their health and well-being. We also provide visual, tactile, audible and olfactory sensory experiences. There are weekly music/movement therapy sessions, 'Oomph' sessions, and arts & crafts classes to help improve, maintain and refine motor skills. We enjoy regular visits from entertainers, musicians and animal therapists, as well as pub nights, 'food from around the world' days, and minibus outings to places of interest.

Cath Smallman

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Cath, the Activities Coordinator here at Ottley House. My days are spent making sure that the residents in the home have an interesting and active social programme to enjoy each day. Residents individual preferences are considered all the time in a person centred approach and I welcome feedback from families too.

It’s blooming lovely here!

Residents were invited to make beautiful Valentine’s-themed table decorations. The displays were used to decorate the home ready for Valentine’s Day celebrations.  Some residents chose flowers in traditional red hues whereas others chose different Spring colours depending on their favourite blooms. We just love helping people create something beautiful and seeing how much pleasure they gain from the experience.  These table decorations are such a simple thing to do but so effective when you see them around the home.  We all had a wonderful afternoon together.”

If we knew you were coming we’d have baked a cake (oh we did!)

Residents whipped up a selection of cakes. Once they had cooled, everyone got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, dolly mixture, edible stars and flowers to make some of the most fabulous cakes in town.

It wasn’t just the residents that were excited about baking cakes, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves cake!”

Joe, a resident said: “I have always loved baking, it is so rewarding when a cake turns out well, I have eaten so much delicious cake today, I think this has to be one of my favourite activities.”

Ottley House Turns 30!

Ottley House has just turned 30 years old, staff, residents and guests commemorated this special occasion with live music provided by local performer Paul Watkins. Also present was the very first General Manager of Ottley House Christine Bird.

Ottley House has built up excellent reputations within its local communities. The home regularly holds events and activities for its residents and surrounding neighbours.

It is also important to recognise the hard work of our staff here at Ottley House.  For the past 30 years, we have provided a caring home for our residents as well as the best possible environment for our staff.  The day not only enabled us to celebrate their hard work, but it was also an opportunity to thank the residents, their relatives and friends who have made Ottley House such a loving home.

Trip to Ellesmere Lake

We took a trip out to Ellesmere where we enjoyed a walk along the Promenade at The Mere.

The Mere at Ellesmere is an award winning Park with a beautiful lake with gardens, woodland walks and historic parkland on the edge of the medieval market town of Ellesmere. It is the largest of nine meres and mosses that can be found in the unique Shropshire landscape. Our residents agree we are so lucky to have this just a short drive away.

It really is a great place to watch the wildlife or just watch the world go by and relax over tea and cake in the historic Boathouse.

The park is predominantly flat, and provides a number of easy access walking routes so is a great place for all our residents to visit.

Happy New Year

We are all looking forward to 2024 and all it has to offer us.

To help kick-start the New Year many of us gathered in one of our communal lounges to ring in the New Year with a song and a drink (or two!)

Here’s to fresh adventures, new memories, and unexplored opportunities.

Best Christmas Ever?

It was a day full of fun, love and laughter. It was wonderful that so many relatives and friends were able to join us throughout the day.

The kitchen staff did us proud serving the most delicious 3 course festive feast and the rest of the Ottley team: - nurses, carers, activities and domestics ensured everyone enjoyed the celebrations.

Time was spent reminiscing about past Christmases and Residents, visitors and staff all said that this one was definitely up there as one of the best.
