Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

National Apple Day

Did you know that Cider brewed in the South West of England has a higher alcoholic value than others brewed around the UK and here in Somerset we have a number of local cider producers.

Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and save to say there was no cheese or cider left.

Taunton Flower Show

We had such a wonderful time at the Taunton flower show. Our annual visit each year never fails to disappoint, the displays were absolutely beautiful and we got to see such an array of different flowers. Everyone that volunteers there are always so accommodating and we look forward to next year’s visit.

Tapas Afternoon

The sun was out in full beam here at the Manor, so what better way to taste the sun then by having a lovely tapas afternoon for all to enjoy. Residents all enjoyed trying little bits of everything! Clean plates all round.

Skydive for Charity

One of our fantastic nurses, Helen, has been raising money for the Barnaby Webber Foundation by braving the sky and doing a sponsored sky dive. We are so proud of her and admire her courage to do such a daring activity for such an amazing charity that is very much in everyone hearts of our community.

Back on his feet!

It’s a huge benefit to our residents having our in-house physio Ramis in 5 days a week because achievements can be achieved. Mark has been working so hard this year with his cycling and is able to walk so well using the parallel bar, he always smashes his targets. Amazing work done.

Summer Fayre

Thank you to everyone that attended our summer fayre on Saturday. The weather stayed good for us. A special appreciation goes out to all the stall holders that attended, Jan McNeill - Entertainer and Speaker  for providing us with some brilliant music, the Somerset Red Arrows Majorettes and dance troupe for providing us with demonstration of what they do and our Volunteers who helped us set up and help with refreshments. Next one the Christmas fayre.
