Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Our Christmas Fete

What a joy it was to bring Staff, Residents, Family and the local community together for our Christmas Fete.

Visitors had stalls to browse around, with local crafters selling their wares from personalised Christmas baubles, to jewellery and many more handmade craft items.

There was something for the children too, with face painting and visits to see Santa in his winter wonderland grotto.

The team at Lanercost would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success, for everyone who came along and supported the home and to those who donated prizes to the raffle – there were lots of winners!

We can't wait to do it all again next year!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Christmas Cake Competition

Residents and Staff have been getting creative and putting their baking skills to the test for the Barchester Christmas Cake Competition.

Residents came together to make a plan about what type of cake would be best to make. They decided a Christmas wreath would look the best, so we found the perfect recipe and started to create the masterpiece. Everyone got involved making different elements of the cake. We are thrilled with the final result.  We hope you agree!

A trip to the Christmas Markets

Residents and staff wrapped up warm and paid a visit to Carlisle Christmas markets.

It was a fun filled day and Residents had a brilliant time visiting all the stalls and sampling the festive food and drink on offer.  They were particularly impressed by the range of home made items for sale. It was a real treat.

In the weeks running up to Christmas Residents and staff have been getting into the Christmas spirit by decorating the home, singing carols and eating mince pies.

Residents Gifted Festive Sweet Treats

It was a pleasure to welcome Jill Glencross Independent Funeral Directors to Lanercost House.  They have kindly donated selection boxes for our wonderful Residents, we are very grateful and overwhelmed by the kindness, it truly is appreciated.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and knowing the community are thinking about our Residents is the best feeling.

Thank you so much for bringing us joy!

Community Connections

It was a real treat to spend time with representatives from Currock community Centre and Thriving Communities Carlisle at their Men's Lunch Club, to hear about all the exciting initiatives the team run and to explore how we can involve Residents from Lanercost House.

We were joined by local Artist, Martin Evans and, under his careful guidance created our own canvas masterpieces.
