Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Monthly Visit to The Lookout Hub

We really enjoy our monthly visits to The Lookout Hub and to see the ladies from Age UK Carlisle and Eden.  Residents enjoy taking part in the dementia friendly arts and crafts session they provide.

This time we had a go at doing some paper weaving to make placemats, these were very good and we had a brilliant time doing it. While we were there we saw Roy the cat, who we loved meeting and giving our attention to!

A Very Happy Valentine's Day

This valentines day we celebrated love and friendship by joining together in the bistro for an afternoon tea with music and good company. Some of us enjoyed getting a picture in our picture frame made by residents and staff and receiving a special treat.

Throughout our Valentines Day, so much love, laughter and joy was shared, as well as fond memories created!

Pancake Day

What a flipping good day we had, everyone enjoyed trying to flip pancakes, some were more successful than others - including the staff!

Our favourite part was tucking into them and layering on all the different toppings - chocolate was a firm favourite.

Shrove Tuesday marks the lead to Easter. The celebration itself is observed as a day those who are practising lent can indulge in sweetness before withholding them for 40 days!

Chinese New Year

We brought in the Chinese New Year and the year of the Dragon with festive celebrations across the home.  Residents enjoyed getting creative and making their own dragons and then sampling some of the delicious Chinese themed food prepared by our Chef.

Some of us had a go at using chop sticks, which isn’t as easy as it looks! - but we all had a wonderful day embracing the Chinese culture and really enjoyed celebrating this occasion.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

We enjoyed making bird feeders out of cereal and pipe cleaners and filling up bird feeders with fat balls ready to take part in the Big Garden Bird Watch, our gardens didn't have many just our usual visitor the pigeons.

Sheila Resident here said 'I've always loved looking after the birds in my garden and making sure they have enough food'

Weekly Exercise Class

What better way to start the day than with some gentle chair exercises.

We all know how important it is to keep healthy and active, so we are always looking for ways to support of Residents to do this.

In our latest session we used our new resistance bands and parachute games.

Residents enjoy gentle exercise classes every week its a good way to keep active and have a little social time too!
