Founded in 1992 by entrepreneur Mike Parsons, Barchester Healthcare is now one of the biggest independent care providers in the UK. Barchester was originally created to provide high-quality nursing care and hospitality to older people but our expertise and ability to offer support has expanded significantly since then.
Today, our 15,000 staff support more than 10,500 people in over 200 care homes, with services that range from dementia care to assisted living and more. High-quality homes have remained integral to us since the start but we have also developed a number of partnerships with health commissioners and providers based on local needs and opportunities. These include building registered hospitals, helping devise new care pathways and caring for a wide variety of adult needs in both our registered hospitals and in specialised homes
We are a strong and growing organisation, building 14 new homes over the last two years and embarking on a programme of updating our existing homes. We have an outstanding reputation within the care sector and often play a leading role in care sector consultative exercises or partnerships, including a current partnership with The Guardian (and others) centred on better lives for the ageing population. We are active members of many organisations working for change, including the Dementia Action Alliance and we help to run an independent charity, the Barchester Healthcare Foundation.
Barchester is a multiple-award-winning organisation, having consistently won awards both as a company and on the basis of the performance of individual members of staff. Recent corporate awards included Health Investor’s prestigious ‘Best Residential Provider’, Pinders awards for building design and awards for training. Our reputation for high-quality care is our greatest asset. It is based partly on the care sector leading design of our homes, on our commitment to hospitality and on our activities and care planning work. It owes at least as much to our investment in staff training and our emphasis on good career pathways for our staff. Excellent staff relationships mean that we are the only care provider listed in the Sunday Times Top 25 Big Companies to Work for in 2013 – an award voted for by staff.
Today, our head office is located in Chelsea Harbour, London. We also have offices right across the UK in locations including Berkhamsted, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Inverness.
