Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Marbles in a Jar

Residents and staff at white lodge participated in a game called "guess how many marbles are in the jar".

It was not only fun guessing the number but also touching the marble took our residents back to their childhood. One of the residents Joyce shared her memories how she used to play with marbles by making holes in the ground! She also thanked us for arranging the game as she loves the sound of marble.

In the jar there were 158 marbles. The winner, Barbara has guessed the nearest and she said it is 157 marbles! Pretty close isn't it? Barbara said she is absolutely thrilled by the fact that she nearly guessed it right and she is so happy to win a lovely gift set for herself.

Making Caterpillars with Pom Poms

Residents at white lodge had fun making caterpillars with pom poms this afternoon. While we are working on our caterpillars, one of our residents Jessie made her own version of colourful snowman with hands and legs.

Crafting is always fun! Crafting is a great way to help you cope with our depression and reduce our anxiety as it keeps our mind busy and enables us to focus on the task at hand. Crafting increases dopamine levels in our brain, it can make us feel happier, which can have a positive impact on our everyday life.

The residents loved the end result so much that they made one of each and said they want to keep these to themselves!!!

Arts and Crafts with Shells

The week started with creativity!

Today morning we had a activity planning meeting with the residents where we discussed about what activities we want to do this week.

After lunch we coloured lots of sea shells, let them dry and stick them around a vase. The decorated flower vase was appreciated by everybody! This gave the residents a sense of achievement.

Later in afternoon we did crosswords in the lounge with a cup of tea and enjoyed the sunshine!

Garden Games

The weather might not be very pleasant this summer but the residents are enjoying the sunshine whenever they can!

For the elderly, engaging in outdoor activities is a time-honoured way of improving mental health, enhancing relationships, reducing feelings of isolation, encouraging energy, speeding up recovery, lowering stress, fighting depression and anxiety, and contributing to general overall health.

Yesterday the residents at white lodge played garden/outdoor target ball game. We made sure to practice before we started playing! The game was pretty hard as we had 2 winners Jessie and Graham and both of them scored 200. Then we decided to play a tie breaker round and Graham won the game this time but he gave his prize to Jessie, how nice of him!!!
