Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Fitness for Longevity (and of course fun)

Every week we look forward to the visit of Will Ferguson the Clinical Director of Caring Physio. Will puts us, our residents and even willing visiting family members through their paces. We stretch and move to music and there's a lot of chat, fun laughter in all our sessions. Will makes it great fun but there is of course a more clinical side to this; he is very carefully watching everyone's mobility to monitor and address any changes, even small changes in mobility, if not addressed, can lead to bigger issues. Exercise is crucial to our health and longevity. It helps to maintain and improve cardiovascular health, has been shown to improve cognitive function, improves mood, helps to increase strength and bone density, it also reduces the risk of falls, injuries and potential hospital admissions. At Waterside Court every single member of our team is committed to providing a warm, life enriching experience that supports health, fitness and wellness. Together with our incredible residents we make life fun.

Knit & Natter Thursday Club

What a turn out for the first of Waterside Court's new community initiatives; 'Knit and Natter' every Thursday from 4pm.

Whether you already like to knit, or wish to learn how to knit, crochet or even create easy to make finger-knit friendship bracelets our resident group is happy to share their skills.

We'll provide the wool and warm welcome to anyone wishing to join us for coffee, cake and a chat as we knit, purl, cast on and weave our yarn!

For more information on the sessions, or if you'd like to join or have knitting goal to set the group please feel free to message or email Philippa on Waterside.Activities@barchester.com

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from everyone here at Waterside Court!

Residents, families and staff welcomed in 2023 with true style. We were visited by the amazing Julie Hunt - Care Home Entertainer, who sang an array of tunes that had us dancing and singing away Julie then rounded off the evening with a collective rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

Residents and their loved ones then enjoyed a delightful, home-made selection of canapes that were accompanied with an array of drinks, which of course included some bubbly to say cheers with!

Resident Ambassador Pearl said "It was so lovely to celebrate the new year this way and I really enjoyed being able to get up and dance with everyone - I even gave the singing a go!" Thank you to our amazing volunteers, Eve and Dave, who joined us with the celebrations and helped to make the evening just that extra bit special.

Crafty Cake Decoration with Mocktails

Creativity over mocktails in the Waterside Court Café courtesy of mixologist (Activities Coordinator) Philippa ... What a super way to spend a winters afternoon in the lead up to Christmas. Our residents really enjoy getting together and having good discussions throughout their Arts & Crafts sessions.

Today was no exception, as they formed the decorative gnomes with spiral icing candy cane legs on their homemade Christmas cake the 'cheers' and singing along to Christmas tunes was such a joy!

Christmas Wishing Tree

The Waterside Court residents decided to create a Christmas Wishing tree from one of the café decorations. They said it would be a perfect place for residents and visitors to the home to sit, relax and read their personal messages and wishes for the future.

If you ever need a warming cuppa and slice of homemade cake, please do drop by and spend some time with friends. There's always someone around happy to chat.

We know we can't grant every wish but we'll certainly try!
