Activities at Tixover House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Nicola Blevins-Twose
Hello, my name is Nicola (Nic) and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Tixover House.
My role is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities, entertainers and outings. At Tixover House we offer something for everyone, including crafts, games, virtual visits to places of interest around the world, outings in the local area and parties. We also provide one-to-one time and sensory activities with residents who need more support. Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meeting we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Tixover House.
I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones. 'Living life to the full' is my motto, and whatever your ability there is always something new to learn or try.
We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Life at Tixover House Care Home
A Special Gift
General Manager, Wendy Kaya, visited Sir Edward Burrows, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Rutland and presented him with a special bottle of port as a thanks for visiting Tixover and spending time with the residents. He said he is looking forward to his next visit and hopes to attend our Dementia Care Voice event on the 21st March.
Snow Day
Staff, relatives and residents enjoyed a day of team building with the General Manager, Wendy Kaya, thanks to the bad weather.
Wendy, Hostess, Karina Elliott Black, and Activities Coordinator, Marie McIntyre, have camped out at the home since Wednesday to ensure that we had enough support during this particular bad spell. Some staff have also stayed overnight to ensure they could make it to work.
Wendy has said that the home has ran without any issues during this time; residents have enjoyed so many staff being here in the evenings and entertaining them. The staff have gone above and beyond and worked together as a team.
One our staff members even got driven to work in a tractor by her dad.
Well done to everyone at Tixover!
100th Birthday Celebrations
We celebrated Vera's 100th birthday on 9th February.
Vera started by having lunch with her family. We then had the fabulous Gavin James Burke singing and getting everyone up to dance. At 3:00 p.m., we had Mike Grant, the Director of the Rutland Chapter, and 11 Harley Davidsons and their riders join us to give Vera her birthday wish, which was to see a Harley. They stayed and enjoyed Vera’s beautiful birthday cake. Afterwards, Lord Lieutenant Edward Burrows arrived and presented Vera with her card from the Queen.
It truly was a fabulous day, one that Vera said she will never forget
Pancake Day
All residents and carers had a go at tossing the pancake, with a lot of giggles along the way, but the best part was the tasting.
Baking at Tixover
We put our baking skills into action recently and made some wonderful creations!
Early Morning Dance
We had an early morning dance to set us up for the day, with some of the staff shaking their stuff with a smile.
