Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Eyes down for a game of bingo

Today at Thistle Hill saw the return of our weekly Bingo session with Mwana and Adelina. Residents, Relatives and staff enjoyed a few games this afternoon, of a line and full house.

Residents were the winners this week with Ken winning a line and a full house on the same ticket. Congratulations also to Susie, May and Hazel on your Bingo wins. Will the staff or relatives win any prizes next week??

Architects for fun!

Today we had a very spontaneous day on activities. We've expected animals visit but due to unfortunate circumstances it has been rescheduled at the very last minute. Our furry friends will be visiting us on Thursday 5th October.

Instead we've decided to become Great Architects! Lots Marshmellows and a packet of pasta is a good building material but don't get fooled, it isn't as easy as it looks. Especially when the rivals from the opposite teams are stealing your bricks (Marshmallows)!

Silent Disco

We welcomed Pete Goldup - The Silent Disco DJ with his famous Silent Disco! Residents and staff were dancing and singing like there's no tomorrow!

Pete came equipped with some disco props and 50 sets of headphones which enabled our residents from all three units including those that are bed bound to be involved all at the same time in our afternoon Silent Disco Party.

Century celebrations at Thistle Hill

Today we were honoured to celebrate the centenary of Connie's birth in 1923!

Constance, we would like to wish you all the best on this special day. Here's to an incredible century of memories and experiences! You have done more than most people could ever dream, and are such an inspiration to your family and friends!

Our Birthday Lady raised a little glass of pink gin and shared her birthday cake with everyone present.

She was happy to receive wishes from King Charles and Queen Consort but her eyes really sparkled when her family presented her with beautiful, handmade gift. Hundred years of memories in the pictures!

We love to dance at Thistle Hill!

We've decided to throw a little party to lift our spirits. The theme was 60's Flower Power as it was a very colorful and vibrant era.

Thank you Rebekah Austin for another excellent performance.

Residents and staff had a great time dancing, singing and sipping cocktails and mocktails.

Music brought back memories and after the party we had a discussion about concerts and festivals residents attended back in the day.

Residents celebrate Yorkshire Day

Residents at Thistle Hill Care Centre were proud to celebrate all things Yorkshire on Yorkshire Day, August 1st. Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975 in Beverly. The day commemorates the Battle of Minden between Britain-Hanover and French forces in 1759, along with the emancipation of British Empire slaves in 1834, for which Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce fought a tireless campaign.
