Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

A trip to the garden centre

Yesterday we took a trip to our local garden centre, Dobbies for a look around and to see if there was any seeds we could pick up to plant in out garden. Our residents really enjoy being out on the minibus and we got packed up and headed off to Dobbies.

Whilst we were there we had a look at all the amazing plants and flowers, we even had a look at all the different seeds for our garden. Our residents loved walking around Dobbies and we even had time to pop into the aquatics whilst we were there and check out all the fish.

Trip to Botanic Gardens

We love a trip out on our minibus and recently our residents had a wonderful time visiting our local parks and gardens.

We walked around the fernery and around the park, our residents said they had a wonderful time, afterwards we had a refreshing cup of tea in the café before we returned back to Sutton Grange for lunch.

Karaoke Fun!

Recently we had our Activities Coordinator Rob, do some Karaoke for us in the Bistro.

Our residents had a wonderful time singing along to some old favourites, alongside some new songs.

We sang our hearts out all afternoon and our residents commented on how much fun they had singing along with Rob and throughout the afternoon we kept ourselves hydrated with some tea/coffee.

Mothers Day

We had a wonderful time celebrating our Mothers here at Sutton Grange.

Our residents and their families enjoyed afternoon tea in our bistro filled with delicious sandwiches and cakes.

Everyone had a wonderful time and our residents and families commented on how lovely the afternoon was.

Flower Arranging at Sutton Grange

Our residents had a wonderful time arranging the flowers into amazing bouquets.

As you can see from the pictures, everyone had a great time and were chatting about how they all really enjoyed arranging various flowers in their own homes.

Afterwards we had a cup of tea, then at the end of the session we took the flowers to all the dining rooms about the home and they smelled wonderful.

Songs of Praise

Our residents really enjoy Songs of Praise and we watched whilst enjoying a cup of tea/coffee.

We enjoyed singing along to the hymns and watching all the places the presenters visited.

Everybody commented on how they used to watch Songs of Praise when they lived at home and it brought back some fond memories.
