Activities at Southgate Beaumont Care Community

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Southgate Beaumont Care Community

Birthday Celebrations at Southgate Beaumont.

We love to have a party at Southgate Beaumont and a birthday celebration is always a great one. A time to get together, eat home baked birthday cake and a glass of fizz!

Wishing a very Happy birthday to our lovely resident Beryl.

We all enjoyed celebrating and Beryl was delighted that everyone could come along to join in the fun together.

An Iberian dance experience

Dancing was the order of the day at Southgate Beaumont care home, where residents were keen to get involved with the Iberian folk dances. Staff and residents were immersed into wonderful costumes, music and group dancing. Everyone was involved and had such a happy afternoon.

The Iberian folk dance company was founded by an English lady Lucille Armstrong back in 1970. Lucille was so passionate about Spain and Portugal and all that it offered. Whilst teaching English there, she took in all the beauty of the language, costumes and dancing and in 1985 the group became a proper society.

With Lucille playing the traditional music on piano and designing all the costumes, the group went from strength to strength. There are currently 22 members and 13 Nationalities within this group. The oldest member is 90 and the youngest is 29. Elsa who is 88 and from South Africa is now the main organiser and told us how in rehearsals they often leave the door open. People hear them from the street and come in to watch. They often find new members that way too! They continue with public appearances spreading energy and joy as they go.

Here at Barchester Healthcare we believe it is never too late to start something new. We have a celebrating life project where we support our residents to do something they have always wanted to do or lean. We have a number of residents that wanted to try their hand at dancing, so having this company was a wonderful experience for everyone.

Celebrating life - a trip down memory lane in a Vintage Rolls Royce

At Southgate Beaumont, we’re committed to enriching the lives of our residents, and we believe it’s never too late for them to learn or experience something new.

John has been a resident at Southgate Beaumont since the summer 2023 and his devoted partner Jerry visits him everyday.

John and Jerry have been together for 44 years and in a civil partnership for 7. They have become a much loved part of our Beaumont family, who bring a great amount of fun and laughter to our home. John is well known for his colourful flamboyant shirts and takes every opportunity to wear them.

John loves the finer things in life and Jerry really wanted to create a magical experience for John and said how much they would love to go out in a beautiful car together.

The team at Southgate Beaumont got together to make this happen and Garry Hall very kindly agreed to take John and Jerry for an afternoon drive in his stunning, classic Rolls Royce 20 25 Sedanca De Ville.

The team clapped as the two made their way to the beautiful Rolls Royce, they sipped champagne before Gary took them on a drive around the places that were special to them, including where they had first met.

An autumnal morning trip out for tea.

On a fresh autumnal morning we enjoyed a spooky trip to the award winning Sunshine garden centre in Bounds green.

Residents enjoyed stocking up on colourful plants and pumpkins whilst also taking in the beautiful displays and flowers on show.

After a spot of shopping we headed to the cafe for some delicious cakes.

We even had an early birthday celebration for one of our ladies, who loved the candle in her toasted tea cake!

Yoga is the key to a very long life!

Today at Southgate Beaumont we had another fabulous Yoga class with the beautiful Dai. Dai brings the perfect balance of gentle chair yoga and mindfulness into our home and we always finish with a relaxing meditation, which makes everyone feel a sense of calm.

Today Dai was delighted to learn that one of her students was 103!

It shows it’s never too late to learn something new.

They then had a lovely chat together about gratitude.

Apparently Yoga is the key to a very long life!
