Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Cathy Wheeler

Activity Co-ordinator

I have been with the team at Southerndown since 2023

People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. Its the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.

In my spare time I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Southerndown Olympics

Southerndown Olympics

Southendown held their very own Olympic Games in the form of an Olympic relay challenge.

Residents and staff teamed up to complete a team relay that stretched 7.6 Miles.

What a fantastic achievement, and it was such a fun way to spend the day. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

Friendship Day

Friendship Day

Southerndown celebrated Friendship Day in style by holding a wonderful tea party.

We decided to make the tea party extra special by baking cake pops for our friends in the home.

What a lovely way to spend the day and make new friends.

Open Day at Southerndown

Open Day at Southerndown

We had a very special visit from Farms 2 Ewe on National Care Home Open Day.

Residents and staff had a lovely day with a Shetland pony called Sweetie, three Pigmy goats, two sheep, four beautiful ducks and, of course, the rabbits.

All of the farm animals were a huge hit with everyone.

Southerndown Celebrates the Queen's 90th Birthday

Southerndown residents and staff have celebrated the Queen’s birthday in style this year with a party fit for a queen; everyone dressed in red, white or blue for the occasion.

What a wonderful way to spend the day, with a sumptuous buffet, Pimm's flowing and a harmonious sing-a-long.

The Seeds of Southerndown

The Seeds of Southerndown

Residents and staff here at Southerndown have been making the most of the beautiful weather; we have been planting seeds and flowers in our courtyard garden to get ready for Barchester in Bloom 2016.

What a wonderful way to spend sunny afternoons.
