Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Bingo Bonanza

Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as they teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.

Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

National Bird Feeding Month

To celebrate National Bird Feeding in February, South Grange residents got creative and made their very own bird feeders from paper cups. The paper cups are reusable so the birds can tear them up and use them as part of their nest. We had a great afternoon chatting about what our favourite birds whilst wrapping up warm to hang our own bird feeders in a space in the garden. Most residents hung them up within view of their window so they can bird watch whilst in the warmth, which is a great idea!

World Book Day prep

Our local Grange nursery children paid us their weekly visit where we started on our preparations for World Book Day by helping the children make puppets based on the children’s book ‘Is that an elephant in my fridge’. The children choose different characteristics of the elephants based on the story so some made a pirate elephant, ballerina elephant whilst others made a super power elephant. They have turned out great and we can’t wait to use them next week when we have our Book Bug session and tea party!

Barchester's Big Bingo Bonanza

South Grange took part in the Barchester Big Bingo Bonanza which took place on 27th February 2024 where we got super competitive and took on our sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo.  It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.

Well Done to Maureen who won us our first 3 points in the league by shouting Bingo for a full house!

Residents join Bingo Bonanza

Staff and residents joined fellow keen dabbers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to compete in the biggest game of bingo Barchester has ever seen!

The inaugural Barchester Big Bingo Bonanza took place on 27th February 2024 when South Grange got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo.  It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.

Much loved Care Assistant retires after 20-years

After more than 20 years of continuous service at South Grange Care Centre in Monifieth, much-loved General Assistant, Lorna Megaw has decided to retire. Staff and residents at the home sent Lorna off in style with a big tea party for her last day where she was presented with beautiful flowers, cards and much more. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Lorna and she will be sadly missed.

During her time at South Grange, Lorna started here as a Carer where she stayed for more than 15 years before moving onto a different department in the home and becoming a General Assistant, which she also loved. Lorna said: “South Grange is like a family to me and though I’m looking forward to retirement and spending more time with my family, I’m really going to miss everyone here!”
