Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Burns Night Celebrations!

Last night at The Manor, we celebrated the Scottish way, after all, it was Burns’ Night! With traditional Scottish music filling the home, and a specially designed Scottish Menu created by The Manor's Chef, we truly celebrated in style! The menu included a traditional Scottish Broth Soup, (which was a firm favourite with the residents!) A Haggis version of Cottage Pie and a Cock a Leekie Risotto, amongst other things - all delicious.

A Crisp Winters Day at The Manor

It’s an absolutely stunning day here at The Manor in Taunton. What a beautiful setting to enjoy this crisp winters day. Its time to wrap up warm and head outside to watch the wild life in our well established gardens.

A Well Deserved Thank you

Barchester value every team member but it was wonderful today that a family sent flowers and Prosecco to our receptionist Tina for always having a smile at reception and being supportive with all the additional work and support she gives not only for residents and there family members but also the staff. Well done Tina a great job and rightfully recognized not only by the home but the individuals and families we care for and keep safe.

Sporting Memories Foundation

Here at The Manor our team have recently joined a meeting with Sporting Memories Foundation to under more about how the scheme can benefit our residents.

Sporting Memories Foundation for 10 years have been using the power of remembering and talking about sport – along with physical exercise – to tackle dementia, depression and loneliness. They are dedicated to bringing together older adults.

Sporting Memories offer group or 1-2-1 based activities for our residents to enjoy either with other residents or by involving family and friends.

There are over 120 Sporting Memories Clubs across Scotland, Wales and England. The supportive, welcoming and structured sessions they offer are proven to help build cognitive resilience for those living with dementia. Mental and physical well-being increases too.

We look forward to working in partnership with Sporting Memories Foundation.

Barchester Christmas Quiz

Barchester’s The Manor care home, in Taunton, got into the Christmas spirit by joining a virtual afternoon of festivities along with the staff and residents at over seventy Barchester care homes across the south of England, Jersey and the Isle of Wight.

The Manor’s staff and residents pulled out all the stops by dressing up in their glittery Christmas best to link up with all the other care homes in the south of the country for a whole host of different fun activities culminating in the Barchester Big Quiz of the Year.  When they weren’t quizzing, residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s chef, Steve.

General Manager, Robert, said: “We’ve all had a challenging year so we wanted to ensure the Christmas celebrations for our residents and staff were an extra special treat.  ‘Meeting up’ with the other homes virtually has given them all such a boost.  We’ve all had so much fun letting our hair down, everyone really enjoyed the afternoon.”

Pet Therapy

It's a Tuesday which means we have an extra special visitor coming to see us. This is Bracken who is our therapy dog here at The Manor Care Home in Taunton.

Bracken is a Labrador cross who found himself in need of a rescue home some years ago, fortunately he found his forever home with one of our dedicated volunteers. Bracken has been visiting the residents at our home for the last two years and everyone involved thoroughly enjoys the experience.
