What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"I selected Juniper House for my father based on the testament of two friends and a personal visit. The home is in a lovely setting and is beautifully landscaped and well-maintained, the central courtyard with the fountain being visible from all the rooms on that side of the building. The inside is well-designed, laid out and immaculately clean. I wanted to get my father out of the hospital and into nursing care. The manager pulled out all the stops to achieve this as quickly as possible. All the staff were welcoming, friendly, caring, kind and helpful; I knew they would take good care of my father. As it turned out he did not have much time left, so he didn't get to take part in any of the many fun and stimulating activities offered to residents. The staff went out of their way to make my father's short stay comfortable and dignified, I genuinely can't think of a single thing that could have been done better and will always be grateful for the way they treated him."

"We looked at eight other new homes for our 92 and 93 year old parents. They have been in residence for three weeks so far, but we cannot fault the staff. Care, compassion and kindness all come to mind, but that doesn't begin to do justice to this exceptional care home! They really do go the extra mile to ensure that residents adapt to their new home. They are not just supported, cared for and loved, but it seems that everything possible is done to make them happy. The food is excellent and activities varied and all-inclusive. There is not a doubt that this home is absolutely perfect for our family. Thank you so much."

"I have nothing but positive things to say about Barchester Juniper House and the wonderful staff. My mother had always dreaded the moment she may need to move to a home but she is happy, safe and in a very caring and professional environment and if she is happy, I'm happy. I always feel that it's the staff that makes a business great. That is certainly the case here."

"The whole team of staff at Barchester Juniper House have provided an exemplary level of compassionate and professional care to my mother over the three years she was in there. It is with emphasis that Juniper House goes beyond care right up until my mother passed away. Forever grateful to everyone there."

"I visit this and other establishments as a therapy dog provider and find that the staff are respectful of the residents and are very caring. They know the needs of individuals and respond accordingly. The residents do give positive feedback to me whilst I am with them with the dog (have been to other places where adverse comments are made). Difficult to comment on some of the ratings, as no experience."

"Juniper House was able to provide a week's respite care at very short notice, which was a huge relief. My room was very pleasant, quiet and comfortable. The staff were all very caring and welcoming. The food was good on the whole and the menu was varied. I cannot comment on the activities programme as I did not take part in any, other than meeting the PAT dog, which was lovely."

"I always really enjoy my visit here. I am greeted warmly and made to feel welcome and it is so lovely to see how well looked after my mum is. She is really settled and treated so well and whilst it is always hard to leave and return home, I do so with the knowledge that she is safe, cared for and comfortable. Thanks for all you do for her."

"All the staff we encounter on our visits to Barchester Juniper House Care Home to see our dear dad are very caring, supportive and friendly. The manager and nurses are always on hand to answer any questions we may have. Food looks delicious and the onsite cafe is very handy, especially as we do not live nearby."

"My mother came to Juniper House, to begin with for respite care. The care and support that we all received was outstanding. So much so that Mother once said she would never go into a care home and within a week does not want to return home. The move to Juniper House has given my mother a new lease of life and she is now joining in with social events, visiting the hairdresser and has a more positive outlook on her life which is evident to see when we visit."

"My mum moved into Juniper House last March. She has been made to feel extremely welcome and she settled into her new routine quickly. The staff are superb, always spending time to care for my mum's emotional and physical needs with the utmost care and compassion. Often under difficult circumstances when there are staff shortages and the staff are under pressure."

"Mum has been in the care home since the beginning of November 2022 and seems to have settled well. The care she receives is of a high quality in a clean and positive environment. I live abroad and always have complete feedback on the phone. Reception is welcoming and positive. Obviously, such a home is expensive and I feel strongly that this should not be a criteria for staying and that all elderly people in need should have financial support."

"Juniper House in Brackley is a very happy friendly and pleasant home. All the staff make the residents feel at home and make them feel very special. All Birthdays are celebrated and the staff go out of their way to help discuss any problems and will help improve."

"My dad arrived at Juniper House after a very long stay in the hospital. We were greeted at Juniper House with a very warm welcome, the staff are all warm and friendly. My dad was made to feel comfortable and staff go out of their way to ensure all his needs are met. The design of the care home is super and the corridors have enabled my dad to move around with a frame and build up strength in his legs. He feels safe and secure in this environment. He can socialise with other patients at mealtimes. Juniper has helped create a home away from home. My dad has been allowed his digital piano in his room and his dog visits regularly. Members of the family visit every day and if we have any problems staff are always accommodating and keen to help."

"When I looked for a placement for my wife, I checked the report and I contacted the home. I was met by the manager who gave me a tour, I was impressed with the home, airy, spacious, en-suite and lovely gardens. The manager offered a placement, and after a slow start, my wife is happy and laughing again. This is all down to the excellent staff who encourage and coax but never impose. I am so happy with all here. A huge thank you to all."

"My mum was admitted to Juniper house in June this year after deterioration both physically and mentally. I have to say if I could give Juniper house and all its staff a 1000 Star review I would. I haven't seen my mum so happy and settled in years. She has improved so much physically and mentally, all down to the fantastic care from the staff, excellent food, activities and entertainment. The staff always make you feel welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. They treat Mum as an she is an extended part of their family, and Mum likes to think of the staff as members of her family too. Whenever I discuss Mum's care with her care team they always want to help and ensure requests are followed. Today a lady came to entertain all the residents, dressed in a Royal Air Force uniform, singing wartime songs. The residents were joining in singing and waving Union Jacks. I found it very moving to see Mum singing her heart out. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all."

"I visited my aunt this week at Barchester Juniper House in Brackley. This was the first time I had seen my aunt for some months, the last time during a hospital stay where she was not very well at all. I was delighted to find her back to her old self. She looked amazing and is happy and well cared for. The home is lovely and I know she is enjoying the relationships she has with both staff and residents. She is creative and so the art activities are a particular favourite. All the staff we met were charming. Many thanks to you all."

"When my wife entered Juniper House on the 17th of May 2022 she was depressed and anxious and worried about her surroundings and the reason why she was there. Over the past 5/6 weeks, I have seen her change through the care understanding and support everyone has given and shown to her and me. She is eating well now and enjoys her trips outside in the garden. The memory book was good for her and me, giving me the time to reflect and answer the questions (very therapeutic for me). Please just keep doing what you are doing thank you."

"My husband was transferred to Juniper House from hospital in May 2022. He seems much happier in a more homely setting. He is not the easiest resident to deal with as he constantly wanders around, but staff seem able to manage his behaviour. We, myself, his children and grandchildren, are able to visit him in an unrestricted way which is reassuring."

"I cannot rate this care home and their staff highly enough, from top to bottom the staff are absolutely brilliant with great management, as well as the home, being purpose-built so a brilliant facility. In January this year, we had to make the difficult decision for my grandmother to go into a care home. Covid was rife and trying to find a home that could accommodate immediately was tricky. I spoke with Juniper House and they arranged for me to go and look around straight away. Two staff members left a great impression and albeit that it wasn't in the immediate area we wanted the home felt right. Within a few days, my Gran was in. The induction process was brilliant and we really couldn't have been made to feel more at ease if we had tried. The staff were, and are, excellent in making not only the resident feel safe and happy but also making sure the family are happy. This was initially temporary due to location, however, we could not imagine her being anywhere else now."

"My mother ( and amputee) has been in Juniper for six years. Until the onset of Covid mum and the family were happy with the service she was receiving. It was friendly, efficient and had stable staffing, however, in the Covid era staffing became an issue. Staff came and went so did the manager. Care quality declined and so did staff morale. I became worried about the home and thus about mum and fees had increased her funds were starting to run low. Barchester had received over £370,000 for mums care. Fortunately, the latest manager is a very determined and caring person. In the few months, she has been the post he has got a grip on managing a tight ship and to my mind, Juniper House is now a different place, back to being the place it used to be. I am a happy relative again."

"My dad has been at Juniper House for over three years now. His needs are quite complex, and Juniper House is doing a fantastic job of looking after him. There have been ups and downs over the years, and lots of management changes, but the staff "on the ground" have always been fantastic and gone above and beyond. The current management is also fantastic and has put in place a staffing structure, which means these wonderful staff can excel. I would absolutely recommend Juniper House to anyone looking for nursing or residential care. Lots of activities, good food and a really lovely environment delivered by excellent staff with very high standards, who really care."

"I wanted to write a review for anyone, who like myself are doing their research on Juniper House prior to placing their loved ones here. Rest assured, you will be making a great choice. Right from initial contact with the manager and her team have gone above and beyond. Both for my terminally ill mother, but also my family. We have been greeted with kindness and understanding, and after what has been a very difficult and upsetting time for us all. They are providing us all with comfort and support. My mum remarked yesterday on my visit, how they all talk to her like she is not silly. While it upsets me that she felt that under the hospital care previous. It's wonderful to know that in the time she has left with us, she feels understood and respected. I hope mum will remain as we move towards palliative care. Knowing that the manager and the team will be looking after her. Thank you so much."

"I do feel the home is a lovely place to live in - it is attractive inside and makes you feel good about a member of your family living here. My only worry is that some weekends there is not enough staff to cope with the resident's needs - my daughter is one such person who has been left in bed for too long because of this problem. Otherwise, is a very, very happy person."

"I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful team who do an amazing job at Juniper House in Brackley. My mother is a long-term resident and during Covid, I have been blessed to know that she has had outstanding care whilst I have been unable to see her, apart from the occasional outdoor visit which was so much appreciated. I am kept informed of her situation and am able to speak to my mum (who has dementia) on the telephone which is always available when I call the home. Not only is the care excellent but the whole team show genuine kindness, warmth and compassion. The home is beautifully maintained both inside and out and feels homely, cosy and very clean, a criteria that is, of course, important to the residents but also for the visitors. Most of all, my mum is settled and happy there which is the best feeling for me. Thank you so much to everyone, you are doing a wonderful job keeping all the residents safe during the Covid outbreak."

The staff made the transition incredibly easy for him and provided a great service to enable him to spend his last days surrounded by his family. The staff facilitated us being with him for many hours and nothing was too much trouble offering us refreshments and comfort when we required it. Would recommend."

"Mum has been a resident at Juniper House for the last five years. Juniper House is a lovely home with a pretty enclosed garden. Since the new manager took over in 2019 the home has improved tremendously with a much-needed boost in staff morale. As a relative, this has been lovely to see as they are so hardworking and caring and deserve to be treated well and with respect. The various departments from carers, nurses and housekeeping through to kitchen staff, maintenance and management are friendly and welcoming whilst professional and dedicated in their individual roles. Juniper House feels like it now has its heart back and I would definitely recommend to anyone considering residential care."

"I would highly recommend anyone thinking of residential care accommodation to contact Barchester Juniper House. Apart from the welcoming ambiance of the home along with the decor and facilities, it's the manager of the home and the care team including kitchen staff who make this a home I would wish to be in should I ever need extra support in the years to come. I honestly can not praise them enough for the help and kindness shown. Thank you so much you are all amazing. "My husband was a resident for 17 months until he sadly passed away in December 2019. The management team and all staff, in all areas, are caring, dedicated and very professional. I looked around many care homes before selecting Juniper House and not one of them was a close contender. Juniper House not only offers care and support to residents but also to family and visitors. The care shown to all our family was outstanding. I have no hesitation in recommending Juniper House as an outstanding care home."

"I visited my Dad at Juniper House. He has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. I don't see him very often because I live far away and find it hard to see him and very emotional. The Activity Coordinator was great in supporting me on my latest visit. I emailed ahead to let her know I was coming. She made the visit easier and gave me loads of advice on how to deal with Dad's dementia. I also thought the craft activity was great and the lady who ran it was so calm and patient. "A lovely, homely environment for my father. Lately, not great standards of management, although all issues have been addressed. I wouldn't say it's value for money - cleanliness, items going missing, laundry (items going missing). Most of the staff are very kind and caring."

"The care for my husband has been good by carers, nurses and management. He had a difficult time prior to being here - in hospital and another care home. He has had exemplary care by one particular nurse. The only complaint I have is about the laundry facilities. Due to washing machines being broken clothes not turned around in time. He has more than sufficient items and sometimes is waiting for clothes from laundry. Needs to be updated by Barchester soon."

"My aunt has blossomed physically and mentally since she moved to Juniper House. She has dementia and has steadily lost more of her memory, in the last two years but she is relaxed and content and I am sure this is because she feels safe and well cared for, she likes and trusts the lovely staff, and she is stimulated through joining in with the various activities at Juniper House and my taking her out regularly. All the staff in all the functions at the home seem to know every resident's name and take the trouble to get to know them. The benefit of this cannot be quantified on a balance sheet but I am convinced that it is central to the wellbeing of every resident and makes Juniper House stand out from other care homes. Every day brings many challenges for the staff, a resident is very difficult, there is a medical emergency or a relative complains (including me), but always the staff try to see and accept each resident as an individual and resolve the situation."

"My father-in-law has recently been admitted to Juniper House. We are extremely pleased with his care. We have had one or two teething problems, his dietary needs are little complicated and it has taken a little bit of work to get this up and running, but now his needs are well met and the general standard of the food is excellent. The home is kept very clean and my father in law is kept spotless. Having said all this the most important element to us is the standard of care he gets. The girls and very kind and empathetic towards him, we find this very touching. Any problems re pain relief are responded to and dealt with quickly. Any concerns we raise are taken seriously and acted upon. We are very pleased."

"My wife spent a week at Juniper House this was the first time she had been in a care home. The first time we met the staff I thought this is a care home my wife would be cared for the way I would want, We were shown her bedroom which was bright and spotless with a large wet room. I was invited to stay for lunch with my wife and found the food very good, The family and friends came to see her that week and they all said she looked very happy and relaxed. When I picked her up all her clothes had been washed and she was smiling and looked happy. I can recommend Juniper House to anyone and thank all the staff for looking after my wife so well."

"Moving a loved one into care has got to be the most difficult of decisions. However this transition has been made so much easier by the overwhelming support received from the staff at Juniper House. From the start, myself and my husband have been made to feel very welcome by all members of staff, whatever their role. Only today, a young carer explained she had read up on my husband’s rare condition because it was important to her to know more about it, so that she could give him the best possible care. I was really touched by this. The food is varied and nutritious and care is taken to ensure resident’s preferences are offered. Activities are plentiful and residents are encouraged to join in and assisted where needed. I am so impressed with everything and this gives me great peace of mind at this difficult time."

"Juniper House is a comfortable purpose-built home which has excellent facilities, services and activities for residents. From the moment you step through the front door, there is a happy atmosphere - staff always speak to you, whether you have previously met them or not and whichever department they work in. Family members are made very welcome, are encouraged to visit at any reasonable time and to join in with resident activities if they wish. My aunt has been at the home for six months - she settled in quickly, she feels safe and secure and I am very happy with our choice. The staff are wonderful with her - they are sensitive, caring, they have a laugh and a joke with her but also treat her with respect and they are responsive to her individual needs. Nothing is too much trouble and they are most helpful whenever I ask for anything. In my aunt's words to me "I am happy and content here - I don't think I could have found a better place"."

Ups and downs due to the world of today. Below is a poem (by me) - says it all. Making the Best of Care in Juniper House We are in care but do not fret, happiness in store for us yet We are all good friends I am glad to say, to be nice to each other is Juniper's way Our carers look after us and are oh-so-kind, sweeter girls you will never find Not forgetting and must not miss, a young new carer - makes life bliss They attend to our needs with such dedication, deserving from us some appreciation As this I end I have to say included in Junipers special way Doctors, nurses and all we employ bring to the residents friendship and joy."

"The staff set up a great party for my mother's birthday earlier in the year, and there is a good range of activities, which they encourage everyone to participate in. The staff are cheerful and friendly, and the food is great!"

"Treated with compassion, both resident and family. Genuinely caring staff. Rooms clean and very acceptable. More activities could be provided. Food very nice but a little adventurous for most elderly folk. Brilliant team spirit with the manager, putting that extra mile for family and client satisfaction. A wonderful team throughout."

"All staff are really helpful, caring and friendly. Nothing seems to be any trouble if you need their help. For the past few months the smell, especially upstairs, has a lot to be desired but have been informed it is being rectified as it was the carpets being urinated on. Pity it wasn't rectified sooner. Mum had wet the bed but it had not been seen to by the afternoon but was done when I asked. Mum also smelt of stale urine a few days later and I noted she was still wearing the same skirt as the day of the wet bed. There are crumbs under the cushion on the chair and bits of rubbish behind furniture. Laundry items although named go missing yet is often left with other residents. I feel overall the service is good but more staff are required and less agency staff would solve the problem."

"Premises still in (new order) as when home opened. Staff turnover slowing down, long term staff are brilliant. Only concern is one in four weekends no reception/security cover on entry desk."

"My mother has been a resident for six months. During that time staff turnover has been high, and the quality of food has turned out to be disappointing. However, the nursing care has been constant with occasional GP visits, her tablets have been - in the main - organised. My mum gets confused with the constant change of carers, and often feels she is 'left til last'. Lately I have been surprised to receive an increase in rates - without prior notification - and it is increasingly difficult to speak to someone about an explanation for this..."

"After my mother suffered a stroke we wanted to move her to closer to us so we could take care of her. What could have been a long complicated move was made easy by the kindness and understanding of the Home Services Advisor. I cannot thank her enough. Mum has now been in Juniper House for several weeks and she is improving daily thanks to the all the staff. We would definitely recommend Juniper House as it creates a caring, homely feel for the residents."

"Mum resided at Juniper house for the last 6 months of her life. Unfortunately she had quite a few medical problems. The care and nursing staff were wonderful with her and we as a family could not have asked for better. She was always treated with dignity and respect by all the staff, who are a very special group of people. I was always made to feel at "home" when I visited, but the staff were always very professional and nothing was too much trouble even when they were busy. It was a comforting thought that mum was in a place were she felt safe and cared for to a high standard."

"I have been very pleased with the overall quality of the care at Barchester Juniper House and I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to prospective residents. The staff are so friendly and genuinely care for each resident and their family. The maintenance of the home, the facilities and the environment, including very pleasant grounds, are excellent. There is also a varied activities program. While every effort is made by all of the members of staff to integrate new residents in to their new environment, each person is treated with dignity and their independence and personal views respected. I have also been able to develop close relationships with many members of the team which is very comforting as I live overseas and am naturally interested in receiving update reports on my mother's health. It is never easy for a family in moving a loved one in to a home and you sometimes read of incidents at other homes in the media. I am so pleased that we found Barchester Juniper House and I would like to thank every member of staff for the ongoing support for my mother."

"My aunt spent several weeks at Juniper House as a temporary resident in 2014 and then as a permanent resident from June until she passed away in August. The room was very clean and well maintained but most importantly the care that she received from all the staff throughout her stays was exceptional. She was treated with respect, kindness and dignity and her wishes were adhered to fully. Also the family were given great support in her final days."

"My wife has had an interesting and positive life particularly acting and singing. In her 70's she started suffering from dementia which is difficult for husband and wife after 50 years together. I obviously wish for my wife to have her last years in a happy environment where she is well looked after. I believe the staff at Barchester Juniper House are giving my wife the most professional care."

"I have been impressed I must say with the care home Barchester Juniper House in which my mother-in-law now lives. The environment, especially the pretty and nicely sheltered inner garden area is excellent. Most charming, attentive, caring and efficient. Really good - highly to be recommended."

"My mother has not been so good in years, she's receiving a lot of support, entertainment and kindness. Everyone is so friendly and positive. It makes visits to see mum much easier at a time we are all so sad about her illness. The staff are fabulous."

"This could be difficult, there are so many good things about Barchester Juniper House. Where do I start ? It must be the staff. When I walk in I am always greeted with a smile and "How are you ?" At Christmas this year my wife will have been with Barchester four years. Over that time her health has deteriorated very slowly. I marvel how staff are able to cope with residents who want something now. The home has an air of goodwill everywhere. I never see areas that need cleaning, the staff are already working at those areas. The kitchen staff know what each resident likes to eat. Top class food. Residents always look clean and are dressed. There is always an opportunity for residents to have an activity. "Would you like to have a walk round the garden" Most residents will say yes, and off they go. There is always a quiet place you can go. I take my wife around the garden, she is wheelchair bound. Once again I compliment the staff on the upkeep of the garden. What more can I say?"

"My mother suffers from Alzheimer's and has been a resident for twelve months at Barchester Juniper House. In spite of the difficult process of moving from her family home, Mum was able to settle in quite quickly, which I'm sure was helped by being able to have some of her own furniture in her room enabling continued familiarity with her surroundings. She is always cheerful when I visit and has maintained her positive, happy demeanour. The staff are welcoming and happy to chat to Mum and I when we are in the coffee lounge. There are regular activities available which Mum enjoys, both from taking part in, and also from the social aspect, mixing with other residents."
