Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Health & Wellbeing day

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Health & Wellbeing day yesterday. Our nurse, Sam, was on hand to help with free health checks and advice, we enjoyed two seated yoga sessions with Suzi, there was access to a huge amount of nutritional guidance, as well as delicious fruit and healthy hydrating drinks. We hope those that visited found the day beneficial, and enjoyed seeing what Hurstwood View has to offer.

HURSTWOOD VIEW GET ON THEIR BLUE SUEDE SHOES

Hurstwood View was transformed into Graceland for an Elvis Tribute afternoon, in honour of what would have been his 89th birthday on the 8th January.

It is estimated that Elvis has sold over one billion records worldwide so to honour the undisputed King of Rock & Roll, the staff and residents enjoyed a fantastic day of music, fun and dancing.

General Manager, Kirsty Heaver, said: “Lots of our residents are big Elvis fans and love his music.  We’ve had a fantastic day listening to the wonderful tribute singer Andy T King, finding out about Elvis in his early life, and what influenced him, he was such an incredible talent.  We have also enjoyed some delicious cocktails made by our Barman and Chef!

Val a resident said: “I loved Elvis growing up.  Listening to all his old hits has brought back so many memories.  We’ve all had a brilliant time reminiscing about our dance hall days!”

A VISIT FROM HIGH HURSTWOOD CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

This morning we had a visit from High Hurstwood CE Primary School’s Yr6 class. They came and sung us a beautiful selection of carols, which our Residents absolutely loved - even demanding an encore.

Afterwards, we enjoyed hot chocolates and lots of cake! It was great to see the children and Residents interacting, and the atmosphere in our Cafe area was wonderful. A huge thank you to the teachers, and parent volunteers who made this visit possible.

NATIONAL GINGERBREAD DAY

Residents have loved choosing what sweets to add, and how best to decorate with their chosen icing.

These beautiful creations will be shared, and served with afternoon tea today!

BUXTED BONFIRE SOCIETY SANTA VISIT

We had a wonderful visit from Buxted Bonfire Society with their Santa sleigh, and huge entourage of elf helpers. Residents absolutely loved seeing them arrive outside the home, and were then treated to room visits with lots of festive cheer! A huge thank you for coming in to see us, and bringing some delicious gifts, we all really appreciate it.

ACCORD VOICES CHOIR

Hurstwood View welcomed the gorgeous tones of the Accord Voices Choir into the home. This 15+ strong choir sung a selection of traditional Christmas songs, as well as some more contemporary versions!. We enjoyed mince pies, mulled wine and of course some Prosecco afterwards!
