Activities at Harton Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Marius Sidoriuc

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Marius, I am the activities coordinator here at Harton Grange. I joined Barchester's family in 2021, as I found their approach and standards on dementia very interesting. Since early 2022 I work for Barchester as both activities coordinator and care assistant. In 2018, I started my journey in health and social care as a care assistant and very soon after, I completed courses on dementia and activities (NAPA, level 2) and I worked as both activities coordinator and care assistant in Kent. I'm also an apprentice in health and social care. I've met some amazing people that have guided my understanding of dementia.

The most important thing for me is to see our residents achieving a meaningful raison d'etre, living as they like and to benefit from a range of activities starting from Namaste to reminiscing and spiritual needs (such as praying or listening to hymns), art and craft, armchair exercises, music therapy or finger nail pamper sessions.

I like to acknowledge that I am working as a part of a whole team, including the fantastic management, hospitality and maintenance departments, promoting a person centred approach for each resident and we are glad to know each persons preferences and abilities in order to plan how the day will look with them. One way we are able to do this is through our residents' and family' meetings where we try to let everyone have their say about the way they want to live and the activities they take part in.

Life at Harton Grange Care Home

All Saints Day

On 1st November we have celebrated All Saints Day (All Hallows' Day), Rev Deborah from Methodist West Harton Church visited us for Holy Mass. We enjoyed praying together,  listening to the hymns,  having the Eucharist (Holy Communion) and learning more about the Saints.

A trip to Asda

We spent a wonderful morning doing shopping in Asda Boldon. Audrey and Dotty have enjoyed today to buy sweets. Audrey wanted even to offer some chocolates to our wonderful carers and we bought plenty of cakes for them as well.

Tails 'n Snails

We had such a beautiful surprise today! Georgia from Tails 'N Snails visited us, transforming our morning into a very bright one despite the rainy weather. We were delighted to see Gizmo - a baby hedgehog,  a 28-year old tortoise,  Lola, a wonderful rabbit, a python snake, a gecko, and a Blue tongue Skink (lizard).

Thomasina,  Moira, Margaret, Doris just loved to see and to cuddle the rabbit. Norma and Moira even enjoyed to touch the snake. Everyone had time to touch and even to talk to these beautiful animals.

Georgia was very knowledgeable and our residents appreciated very much. We are looking forward to seeing Georgia and her little friends on next month.

Halloween Celebrations

It was Halloween, so it was a spooktacular show! This year we had Christine as special guest. We had a special treat as well, it wasn't a trick as our chefs prepared lots of tasty Halloween recipes.

Creating with Clay

We had a busy (and creative) afternoon making and painting clay shapes, representing different birds or flowers. Thank you to Jos from Equal Arts for helping us to have this session with the ceramist Meg.

A visit from Harton Harmonisers Choir

What a wonderful afternoon! We have had Harton Harmonisers Choir in to visit and they brought a lot of joy in our home. We just loved to hear and see them. Harton Harmonisers is an acappela singing group based in South Shields and they sing unaccompanied (acappela) songs.
