The Portland Suite

The Portland Suite is situated only two miles from Worksop. Nearby are both Clumber Park and Thoresby Hall, with Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham all within close proximity. Our capable and experienced team work towards supporting choice, change and well-being for people with both organic and functional mental health issues.

Portland Suite is managed by a Head of Unit, who is an experienced and compassionate mental health nurse.  By adopting a ‘hands on’ approach to managing the staff team, she leads by example and is an advocate for best practice and evidence-based interventions.  We also have a team of nurses who have a breadth of expertise ranging from mental health to learning disabilities.  With support workers who are highly skilled and have been trained to recognise changes in the people that we work with, the nursing team can make balanced clinical decisions.

The Portland Suite has 23 en-suite rooms, furnished to an excellent standard and with bright and secure outside space our clients are able to enjoy fresh air all year round. Communal living space is also modern and easily accessible. .

Our approach to care

Here at Portland we adopt a ‘whole home’ approach, where the person is at the heart of all that do. We believe that maintaining independence and enabling people to live their lives to the full is a key priority, with clients benefitting from the participation of the whole team. We also have a team of nurses who have a breadth of expertise ranging from mental health to learning disabilities.  With support workers who are highly skilled and have been trained to recognise changes in the people that we work with, the nursing team can make balanced clinical decisions.

My father has been living in Forest Hill since October 2016. He has advanced dementia, has had aggressive behaviour, including non-compliance with care and intervention until quite recently. He is 88 years old today, and nearing the end of his life. I have managed 4 care homes with nursing. We chose Forest Hill when dad's status changed from residential to nursing needs. I visited several 'recommended' care homes in Sheffield; they were appalling, with clear evidence of lack of training and disinterest from the staff. Forest Hill has earned the very well deserved 'outstanding' status from CQC. The leadership is outstanding! The care given to dad is outstanding and the care and support given to us as a family is outstanding. Mum still lives at home. We are a very small family; I have 1 brother, and mum has had many episodes of acute ill health, resulting in hospitalisation (in Sheffield) for prolonged periods many times – the staff at Forest Hill always ask how mum is, and understand it is difficult for her to visit frequently. I supervise geographically a very large area, geographically speaking, making it difficult to visit often. Katie (Nurse in Charge) is exceptionally kind and often rings me just to let me know Dad is okay.
