Activities at Drummond Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Coronation Celebrations at Drummond

Excitement is in the air at Drummond Grange  in Lasswade where residents and staff have been busy making Coronation-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Chris Lewis in preparation for the King’s Coronation on May 6.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home held Best of British Street Party. The home invited friend, family, neighbours and member of the local community to come in to the home where they were treated to a performance from singer Sarah Laing. Everyone worked up an appetite playing old fashioned garden games and having fun in the selfie booth. Afterwards everyone was treated to a best of British tea party complete with sandwiches and scones and even a visit from the local ice-cream van Toy Story Ices Midlothian which everyone enjoyed.  The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

The rich history of coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

A Visit from Zoo Labs

Zoo Labs paid us a visit this month. Residents were very excited to get a hands on experience with some unusual creatures and learn all about them. Some residents were defiantly more up for handling the animals than other residents but everyone enjoyed getting to see the animals.

Easter celebrations at Drummond

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Drummond Grange care home, in Lasswade, celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities including Easter arts and crafts, baking, making bonnets with their friends from Hopefield Nursery as well as a community Easter egg hunt and fun day .

St. Patrick's Day

In honour of the patron saint of Ireland, staff, residents and guests at the home marked the day by getting dressed up in Green clothing and holding a St Paddy’s Day Party, including a St Patricks Day game of bingo, roll a rainbow game and cocktails then ending the party with a good Old Irish singalong. Residents also filled the home with their lucky wishes of what they would do if they found a pot of gold. Giving the celebrations a gourmet twist, the chef at the home prepared a themed menu of Irish treats.
