Activities at Corrina Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Sharon Rickman

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Sharon, and I'm part of the activities team here at Corrina Lodge and have worked here for over 20 years. I thoroughly enjoy my job and have achieved an NVQ Level 3 in Activities whilst working here. During my time here, I have met some truly amazing people and I feel privileged to work in a home with such a sense of community.

Life at Corrina Lodge Care Home

Hobby Club

We have recently started our weekly Hobby Club which is proving very popular and runs every Friday afternoon for our wonderful community here at Corrina. Family and Friends often join us which is wonderful. There is time to practice a new hobby or one you already enjoy, or simply just to spend time with family and friends.

Residents have been enjoying a mix of creative hobbies, including painting and needlework. Residents are working on some lovely projects they want to continue in the club. Over the coming weeks we are going to explore hobbies residents have suggested they’d like to try such as wool crafts, origami and nail art.

Yoga

Every Thursday at 2.00pm residents, families and friends are invited to join our fabulous Yoga Sessions.

The wonderful Emma Baldwin, who takes the class, is a qualified instructor and the sessions are tailored to people who may find standing for long periods or floor based work tricky. The session are very suitable if you are a wheelchair use

The Year of the Rabbit

Happy Chinese New Year. The Year of the Rabbit focusing on relaxation, quietness and contemplation.

And what better way to celebrate but welcome these lovely cuddly creatures to our home. Thank you to Debbie, from Boonies pet who brought in some adorable bunnies, along with some other friends, to brighten up our residents morning. So many cuddles were had by staff and residents. We didn’t want them to leave!

We also enjoyed a lovely stir fry lunch yesterday and practiced some beautiful Chinese writing.

According to Chinese tradition this new year is likely to be calm and gentle, bringing an energy that will help those looking for more of a balanced life. If you like the sound of this, come and see what we have to offer here at Corrina Lodge next Saturday 28 January for our Open Day. More details to follow

A Unforgetable Natvity

We had an absolutely fabulous day on Monday and we're joined by Lyndhurst School who performed a lovely Carol service which definitely got us in the Christmas spirit.

The children really enjoyed meeting the animals from Millers Ark Farm after their performance. The Corrina Lodge Community had a great time meeting the animals and particularly the goats who seemed very at home saying hello to our community members that were not able to make it to the garden

It's all in the stiring!

Corrina Lodge residents and staff have been busy baking our 'mini christmas cakes', with frosted cranberries and rosemary, to enjoy over the festive period.

Head chef Kathleen, activity assistant Gina, volunteer Linda and the wonderful residents at Corrina were quite pleased with the results of their efforts and have entered this year's Barchester Healthcare Christmas Cake Competition. Fingers crossed for a win.

They have been through the taste test and were absolutely delicious!

Residents have really been getting into the spirit of Christmas here at Corrina Lodge.

We’ve enjoyed some fun festive craft sessions making Christmas baubles and Hot Chocolate Snow Globes, whilst enjoying some festive treats and Christmas songs

Happy Christmas from our home to yours.
