Activities at Collingtree Park Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as they can, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Skye Summerton

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Skye and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Collingtree Park care home. My role is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities. We offer something for everyone, including arts and crafts, games and live entertainment including visits to places of interest in the local area. I love to provide one-to-one time and sensory activities with residents who need a little more support.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular meetings with family and friends I can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining the Collingtree Park community.

We are an animal friendly care home with a resident cat called 'Bella' and daily visits from our residents' family dogs. We understand the power of PET Therapy and welcome animals of all sizes from mini beasts to the quarterly Alpaca visits a local farm.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Dating Advice for All

On Valentine's Day, we asked our residents the secret to their long, happy marriages. Today we have asked for "Dating Advice" from some of our residents, who were more than happy to share!

Robert said "If you're going on a date, you should always have chocolates, but depending on how the date goes depends on if you will be sharing them or not!". Meanwhile, Jean said the most important thing was to "Enjoy yourself".

We enjoyed sharing lots of funny stories, Barbara shared stories of her first dates with husband, Michael, and said, "If I had to start again now, I wouldn't bother with it!". Barrie told us he was very lucky to have found "the one" and said "When you know you know".

It's been lovely listening to our residents stories to celebrate Valentines Day.

Pancake Day!

We have kickstarted our morning with an 'American Style' breakfast, and made pancakes the star of the show. Pam said "We used to make pancakes for lunch to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, it's funny that you couldn't wait that long!".

Meanwhile Barbara helped to prepare the fruit and other toppings in the kitchenette. She said "The kids love pancakes and part of the fun is choosing what goes on top of them, in my day it was just sugar!" We have all had a great time choosing toppings and speaking about the meaning behind Shrove Tuesday too, with a quiz and discussion group following our breakfast.

Happy Chinese New Year

We all welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities. Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns and parasols. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.  Head chef Jennifer Briggs cooked up an oriental feast for lunch as a visiting Chinese Dragon greeted every resident wishing them continued good health and handing out brightly coloured golden fortune cookies.

Nikki Allen, General Manager of Barchester’s Collingtree Park said: “We have had a wonderful day welcoming the 2024 Chinese ‘Year of the Dragon’. It’s been smiles all round. Our residents loved the staffs’ vibrant costumes, oriental delights and meeting the dragon!”

Love is All Around our Cafe

What a wonderful afternoon we had at Collingtree Park yesterday, hosting our monthly Dementia Cafe!

Celebrating International Heart Month - we talked all things love and made our own hearts and cards to share with each other. Thank you to our chef for delivering some freshly baked scones to the group, and to our fabulous volunteer Sharon for helping with the crafting.

Our next Dementia Cafe will take place on the 6th March we look forward to welcoming new guests.

Morning Walks

Pam was up early this morning, so we went for a walk around Collingtree Park. Bring located within the Collingtree Golf Course has its benefits when you want to enjoy the brighter mornings!

We enjoyed looking at the tall trees and wondering when Spring will finally be upon us. Pam said "At least the days are brightening up and the weather is mild enough for a walk."

Friends Reunited

Last week, Ivy and Jean enjoyed a visit to King Richard Court Care Home, where they both used to live. They enjoyed a special afternoon tea, meeting with old friends, and were particularly pleased to come home with their very own comfort bears!

Both ladies had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to their next invite.
