Activities at Brookfield Care Home

Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.

It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Life at Brookfield Care Home

Keeping the mind active

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Brookfield.   It may have been cold outside but Residents enjoyed a games morning and a little friendly competition playing ‘connect4’

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, we include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

Berni sings

Brookfield residents enjoyed the gentle tones of Berni Stubbs who visited for the first time this month. As well as entertaining with a wide variety of songs, his unique sense of humour had the residents smiling.

St Mary's at Christmas

Being part of the local community is very important for our residents, giving them a sense of belonging and connectivity to the village in which they live, we are very proud of our continuing links with St Mary’s C of E Church.

We have regular visits from the church for our monthly communion service and take part in church events such as the Christmas Tree Festival.

This year’s theme was ‘New Beginnings’ we filled our tree with homemade decorations symbolising all events that residents considered a new beginning, a new job, a new car, starting a family, travelling and many more.

Something a little different

Residents at Brookfield really are enjoying a wide variety of musical entertainers in the run up to Christmas and were surprised to learn that Tina was a Saxophonist and wouldn’t be singing....but that soon changed as they were all humming along to familiar popular tunes and had lots of questions about the saxophone afterwards.

Decorating our home for Christmas

In preparation for the upcoming Christmas festivities, we spent time decorating our home with colourful themed ornaments, lights and baubles.

Our residents had fun creating the home’s Christmas display and got involved in arts and crafts sessions to paint baubles and make the beautiful decorations for our Christmas tree.

We held a special lights switch-on ceremony, where we turned on the Christmas lights at the home.  Everyone had an amazing time and we are all looking forward to the holidays.

Birthday celebrations

Resident, Eva recently celebrated her birthday in style surrounded by staff and friends in the home. Eva had a wonderful day as the home held their ‘Sunday Fun-day’ activities.

Eva was over the moon with the gifts she received and was delighted with her delicious cake, after a rousing rendition of ‘Happy birthday’ everyone enjoyed a slice.

Sarah Nolan, General Manager said: “It was a lovely afternoon which was enjoyed by everyone and it was nice that Eva could share her day with all the other residents and the staff made sure her birthday celebrations were spectacular!”
