Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Luisa Painemilla

Activities Coordinator

Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall.

I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.

My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

Virtual Book Club

We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

New Year's crafts

Residents enjoy their creative craft group, today was a lively session as residents began to create their New Year’s Eve decorations and hats, and they took advantage of talking about how time has passed and what they want for the next year and the ways in which they have celebrated New Year’s Eve. They all agreed that the best is to have a good health.

Christmas Jumper Day

We are helping to make the world a better place by wearing a festival jumpers today in aid of Save the Children’s annual fundraising event, Christmas Jumper Day. Our residents have been encouraged to borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and raise awareness for children in need all around the world.  Some of our residents have been very creative and decorated their own glitzy knitwear with tinsel, stars, baubles and snowflakes.

Anita Autumn

Residents were delighted to welcome back, Anita Autumn the scarecrow as part of their autumn crafts.  They refreshed her look and clothes and everyone was happy to see her return!

International Stout Day

We had a great celebration of black beer also known as "stout" supporting its craft creation and its different flavour . The residents had a pleasant time feeling like they were in a pub that some remembered longingly. The game of Dominoes helped to feel more in the atmosphere of a celebration.

Halloween

Here at Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View we got into the spooky Halloween spirit of things by creating an autumnal display with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.   We hosted a fun-filled party in the afternoon with delicious Halloween inspired treats, and floral displays.   Some of our residents preferred to paint and decorate pumpkins and others got involved in themed quizzes and games, and enjoyed watching Halloween films.   We all had a spooktacular time.
