Activities at Austen House Care Home

Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.

We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.

In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.

In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

International Museum Day

In recognition of International Museum Day, we’ve had the perfect opportunity to organise a day trip to our local museum, The Museum of English Rural Life.

Our residents spent time learning interesting and fun facts about museum's collections and enjoyed a reminiscing session, where they shared amazing stories about their childhood, especially those who grew up on the farm.

It was a very exciting and enjoyable day for all!

International Nurses Day

We had a very special celebration at Austen House as the 12th of May was International Nurses Day. We are hugely indebted to all our nurses, and we are incredibly proud to applaud their extraordinary efforts and commitment, on this special day of recognition. International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of nurses everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support. Our General Manager, Joseph Patterson and residents offered to the nurses lovely gifts and handmade cards!

Coronation Celebrations!

Excitement was in the air as we all celebrated the Coronation of King Charles in style. Our home was beautifully decorated with themed flags, banners and balloons, setting the stage for a royal tea party. The whole home came together, along with families and friends to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.  Over the last few days the home held a Royal Tea Party, Cheese and Wine Afternoon with a Coronation -themed quiz and an amazing concert with live music performed by the fabulous Janet and Francis and their magical musical instruments.

We all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Coronation, such a momentous occasion.

Celebrating St George’s Day!

In honour of St George, patron saint of England, residents and staff at Austen House enjoyed decorating some cupcakes and the home for the occasion. We also spent time learning top facts about St George, tested our knowledge with a fun-filled themed quiz provided by Oomph on Demand and we were delighted singing and dancing in a live music show with Doug!

We all had a wonderful time!

Minibus trip to the Garden Centre!

Residents and team members from Austen House were delighted to take a trip out to visit Henry Street Garden Centre. A family-owned and run, independent garden centre with a fabulous selection of plants and gardening products, there was so much to see and choose from. We selected some beauties to add to our garden and after all that hard work residents relaxed in the cafeteria and enjoyed a lovely cup of tea/coffee and a delicious piece of cake.

Easter Celebrations

Residents and staff at Austen House celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities.

We enjoyed a fantastic Easter Bonnet Parade from Thrive Early Years and Intergenerational Childcare, their sibling and parents who showed off their fabulous handmade bonnets. We had lots of fun together, singing and playing Easter games and at the end, children received delicious Easter eggs from residents.

Also, residents enjoyed attending a church service, making personalized Easter cards for their loved one, and a visit from the Easter bunny, who shared chocolate eggs to all the residents, staff and visitors on Sunday Easter.
