Activities at Bloomfield Care Centre

We host a wide range of activities and events here for residents to stimulate them both physically and mentally. Relatives can often be found taking part; for example, they will some times join us on minibus trips and to enjoy entertainers and musical events. There is regular involvement from the local community, with ministers holding services for us weekly, visits from our PAT dog, and a good volunteer network. Additionally, we have recently opened a Dementia Café, which is held on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Activities are an essential part of residents' lives, so we strive to keep them active with a focus on what they can achieve and that life here is fun.

Cathy Jallow

Activities Coordinator

Hello, My name is Cathy and I am the Activities Coordinator at Bloomfield care centre.

I joined the team here at Bloomfield in August 2017 as carer and have since moved into Activities.

The Activities role is varied and one which allows me to plan amazing activities for our residents to ensure their days are filled with lots of fun, laughter and social interaction.

I am always looking for new activity ideas as well as new places to visit, so please give me a call to discuss our life enrichment programme further.

25th Anniversary Celebrations

This week we had a double celebration! Firstly we celebrated 25 years of our home being open with a mini-concert in the garden, an amazing buffet and a fantastic cake creation.

But we were also honoured to celebrate Wendy, our much loved hairdresser, for her 25 years of taking care of our residents. Wendy has been cutting the hair of Bloomfield residents since we very first opened our doors. Everyone loves Wendy and we are lucky to have her.

Garden Centre Outing

Today our residents took a trip to the local Dobbies Garden Centre for a spot of lunch as well as to choose some flowers and shrubs for our ongoing indoor and outdoor gardening projects. Our green-fingered residents came back with the minibus loaded with plants and are ready to create some fantastic colourful displays.

Gardening Club Success

Our resident-led gardening club has been hard at work steadily transforming Bloomfield's outdoor spaces into beautiful, vibrant and welcoming areas to spend time.

At Bloomfield we encourage and support all of our residents to continue to enjoy the hobbies that they love and to treat the gardens as their own. Our gardening club is one of the many resident-led activities that are popular at Bloomfield.

Garden Party Indoors

The weather sadly prevented us from enjoying our beautiful gardens today, but it didn't stop us making the most of the day together.

Residents and staff enjoyed a terrific performance from The Sundaes by Mini-Concerts, who had us all dancing along to their feel good tunes. Chef and his team also prepared a fantastic summer picnic-themed buffet followed by icecream sundaes!

Family and friends are always invited to join our activities and events in the home and we welcome suggestions from all.

National Chocolate Day

We enjoyed the classic chocoholics dream; a chocolate fountain to celebrate National Chocolate Day here at Bloomfield.

With fresh fruit, marshmallows, biscuits and sponge fingers to dip into the warm chocolate streams, it was a delightful afternoon treat that we are planning to repeat soon!

At Bloomfield we believe that it is important to enjoy food and that sociable dining experiences enhance our quality of life. For that reason we are always looking for new ways to treat our taste buds.

Little Stars Nursery Visit

The adorable children from Little Stars Nursery joined our residents for an afternoon of fun and games followed by a picnic in the garden. The children filled the home with energy and giggles, and our residents have loved every minute of it.

With many of our residents enjoying regular visits from their own grandchildren it is no wonder that we are so welcoming to the local schools and nurseries. Our intergenerational activities are always a favourite with the residents.
